In a fitting announcement,
Entertainment Weekly has revealed that
Patton Oswalt will be returning to
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. as Sam and Billy Koenig. Oswalt debuted on the show as Eric Koenig in the first season, who was murdered by HYDRA agent Grant Ward. Season 2 introduced his identical brothers, Sam and Billy, also played by the actor.
Given the characters' eerily identical looks and vocal greetings, many fans have theorized that the Koenigs were actually
Life Model Decoys, which have now been officially introduced in the show's fourth season. Could this mean the Koenigs will be confirmed as LMD's? Showrunners Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen have teased that
something will be revealed:
“Patton Oswalt returns as the Koenigs, and we finally reveal their family secret.”
Oswalt will return in the January 31st episode, "Hot Potato Soup", which will see Sam and Billy being hunted down by an unknown force in relation to the Darkhold. Check out a photo from Oswalt's return below, along with a new clip for next week's episode, "The Patriot".
