HAWKEYE: Florence Pugh's Yelena Belova Will Reportedly Feature In "Multiple" Episode Of The Series

It's no secret that Florence Pugh is set to reprise the role of Yelena Belova in Disney+'s Hawkeye, and it's now being reported that the character will have more than just a cameo role in the series...

There's a huge amount of excitement for the Hawkeye TV series coming to Disney+, not least because we're going to meet Hailee Steinfeld's Kate Bishop. That's another Young Avenger added to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but it's the return of Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova that has had everyone talking in recent weeks.

In Black Widow's post-credits scene, Yelena was tasked with taking out Clint Barton by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, a mission she was only too glad to accept given how she clearly blames him for Natasha Romanoff's death.

Now, The Cosmic Circus is reporting that Hawkeye will be a six-part series (rather than the eight listed on IMDb), with Pugh's former Red Room operative set to appear in "multiple" instalments. The site seems pretty confident that we'll be watching the show by November, and adds that Julia Louis-Dreyfus has yet to shoot any sort of cameo for the series.

It's definitely good to hear that Yelena won't be making a one-off appearance, and this seemingly indicates that Hawkeye will explore the grief she feels over losing Natasha in a meaningful way. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has teased plans to reveal whether she was among those "blipped" by Thanos, and if that was the case, chances are she's been dealing with an awful lot of guilt.

By the time all is said and done, we'd be willing to bet that this series will be used to put Yelena on a heroic path that sees her pick up where Natasha left off...well, that or she becomes a full-blown villain and a member of what's beginning to look like Val's team of Dark Avengers!

Where do you see her story going?

Makes sense I guess. She's probably gonna be introduced at the end of one episode, confronting Clint in the next, and probably gonna realize how it actually happened at Vormir and help Clint out in the episode after that.

Each show has a love theme

WandaVision - Eros
TFATWS - Philia
Loki - Philautia
Ms. Marvel - Storge?

Anyone got any ideas for Hawkeye? Storage would work, but then I question what Ms. Marvel would be. Perhaps a flirtatious and playful love will be involved. Or a scorned ex of Clint’s.

@Waddles - Excellent suggestions. I think I’ll convert to your theory and play off as my own. No one will ever know mwahahahaha.

That seems hard to believe. Hawkeye's already got a TON of stuff to introduce and explore, so fitting in too much tangential Yelena stuff could turn this into a bit of a juggling act. I feel the shows have handled this well for the most part, with the only negative being that sometimes guest stars don't get much to do vs what we expected, but that's not as much of an issue with Yelena because we literally just got a movie with her a few weeks ago.

This also establishes a trend of these Marvel shows featuring guest from the movies in some fashion or another, or at the very least introducing characters that will spring back into the movies (Kang, Photon, various Young Avengers, etc) so I'm wondering who pops up in Ms Marvel, if anyone. Kinda seems a bit far fetched to expect Brie Larson to just stroll in but stranger things have definitely occurred.

@OmegaDaGrodd - yeah Brie Larson seems a bit unlikely, but I could definitely see Tayonah Parris cameoing as Monica, even if it's just in a post credit scene to set up The Marvels, tying it all together before the movie comes out.

Just had a weird thought, but between Clint originally recruiting Natasha into SHIELD (despite having orders to kill her, if I remember correctly), then taking on something of a mentor role at times to Wanda, presumably becoming Kate's mentor in the Hawkeye series and possibly taking on a similar role toward Yelena when she inevitably learns he's not responsible for Natasha's death and they become allies, Hawkeye in the MCU seems to be playing a similar role to one often played by Wolverine in the comics (and occasionally in the movies) where he becomes almost a surrogate father figure to super-girls (Logan having played a similar role toward Rogue, Shadowcat, Jubilee, X-23 and more across various continuities).

I'll be honest and say that I know next to nothing about Hawkeye in the comics besides having read the first volume of Matt Fraction's run YEEEEEARS ago, so I don't know if that's a common personality trait he shares with his comic book counterpart, but it's an interesting direction they've taken him in the movies at least.

There's such an obvious correlation between Yelena and Clint's shared guilt about their pasts and grief for Natasha.

My guess is Clint and her go at it and she learns the truth. Then acts as a double agent in Fontaine’s team and ends up being the catalyst turning the team against Fontaine and redeeming themselves.
