Looks like one of the greatest rap groups of all time has been snagged by Marvel to score Luke Cage. Can you kick it?

We know almost nothing about Marvel and Netflix's Luke Cage outside of the main cast. News has recently been released that Ali Shaheed Muhammed, a member from the legendary rap trio A Tribe Called Quest, would serve as a composer and score the series. This makes perfect sense seeing as how Luke Cage and A Tribe called Quest are both from New York City.

With songs like "Can I Kick It", "Award Tour", and "I Left My Wallet In El Segundo" A Tribe Called Quest has delivered some of the greatest hip-hop hits of all time.

Luke Cage showrunner, Cheo Hodari Coker, recently confirmed the news in an interview with Entertainment Weekly:

"It's very sophisticated. I mean, it's got a '90s hip-hop vibe, but it's really forward-thinking. We have Adrian Younge and Ali Shaheed Muhammad doing the scoring for us,"



The two recently collaberated to produce the track "untitled 06" off of Kendrick Lamar's new untitled unmastered album.

Luke Cages debuts on Netflix on September 30th starring Mike Colter as Luke Cage, Mahershala Ali as Cotton Mouth, Theo Rossi as Shades, Alfre Woodard as Mariah Dillard, and Simone Missick as Misty Knight.

I am so damn white I don't know ANY of these rappers or hip hop artists. I'm still glad they're bringing them in to fit the culture that fits Harlem, though.

@jerryblake - Of course, but almost everyone knows who he is. I don't listen to this genres of music, so I have no idea who would be an artist in the 90's, early 200's, or even now. No clue, only people I know I accidentally stumble across. I just know the super obvious rappers and whatnot.

I listen to a small bit of rap and hip hop, VERY small and not very often, but if they're good I'll have to put them on a list and give them a listen one of these days. I feel like 90's hip hop is where my tempo would be at, anyways.

@ScarletWarlock just jk with Eminem. You know, i'm not familiar with artists or they backrounds but i remember some songs from my childhood. Some songs were written/made for comicbookmovies.

The only album I consistently listen to from a comicbookmovie is Prince's Batman songs. I listen to Batdance every week or so. I'm not sure if I remember any hip hop songs from a comic book film, maybe I don't remember or haven't watched them all to hear them.

@ScarletWarlock - to be honest i did not focus on hip hop songs but rather black artist in comic book movies soundtracks. "Batman and Robin" soudtrack is imo the most obvious one.

@ScarletWarlock - Kanye is a douche, but his music is respected. I'd recommend Kendrick Lamar. take a listen to his albums Good Kid Mad City and To Pimp a Butterfly. Nothing but poetry. j Cole is talented as well

I mentioned before Rza & Eli Roth were my wild card picks to serve as co-showrunners on Iron Fist. They're fans of martial arts films/shows and have experience in the genre. So, Rza scoring Iron Fist would be a great fit and awesome.
