Today, Disney+ has released Marvel Studios' A Fan’s Guide to Ms. Marvel, a documentary short now available on the streaming service. If, like many people out there, you're not overly familiar with Kamala Khan's comic book adventures, then this sounds like a good place to get a head start on getting to know the hero.

A Fan’s Guide to Ms. Marvel offers an exclusive look behind the upcoming original series, Ms. Marvel, from its comic book origins to its development and production as Marvel Studios' next hit series on Disney+. It features interviews with its awarding-winning filmmaking team and the show’s captivating star, newcomer Iman Vellani.

The review embargo for Ms. Marvel lifts on June 6, two days before the show premieres. Critics have been treated to the first two episodes, and we'll be sharing our verdict next week in order to give you a better idea of what to expect.

"Ms. Marvel is a new, original series that introduces Kamala Khan, a Muslim American teenager growing up in Jersey City. An avid gamer and a voracious fan-fiction scribe, Kamala is a Super Hero mega fan with an oversized imagination—particularly when it comes to Captain Marvel. Yet Kamala feels like she doesn’t fit in at school and sometimes even at home—that is, until she gets super powers like the heroes she’s always looked up to. Life gets better with super powers, right?"

Joining Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel in the show are Aramis Knight, Saagar Shaikh, Rish Shah, Zenobia Shroff, Mohan Kapur, Matt Lintz, Yasmeen Fletcher, Laith Nakli, Azhar Usman, Travina Springer, and Nimra Bucha. Bisha K. Ali is the show's Head Writer, while episodes were directed by Adil El Arbi & Bilall Fallah, Meera Menon and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.

Ms. Marvel will premiere on Disney+ on June 8.

@dragon316 - thats a good argument honestly. People always get fed up with physical attributes like height and skin or even hair color, but age never really is an issue

Man after that Stranger Things season, Disney+'s productions kinda feel like appetizers instead of main courses.

I don't know how Ms. Marvel is going to end up, but I hope Disney begins to realize that they have to raise the bar a little bit.

I mean the shows are fairly good, and the complaints aren't major, but I wouldn't put them next to HBO Max and Netflix just yet.

@Fares - the majority of Netflix shows are pretty mediocre in my opinion. Out of every 10 shows I watch on Netflix, I don't finish half of them. For HBO (Max) and Disney+ that's maybe one out of ten each.

But I agree, Disney+ should step up on quality, just as Netflix should step down on quantity.

@bkmeijer1 - Yeah definitely. I'm not scouring though Netflix's catalogue looking for good shows. They pump up so many that it's inevitable for at least one to end up being good and become popular enough for me to hear about it. And usually they're really good. But it wouldn't hurt them to step down on quantity as you said and reallocate resources to better things.

Disney, while its avergae quality may surpass that of Netflix, They don't have many shows and the good shows aren't exceptionally good in my opinion.

HBO, you keep doing you, honey. Fingers crossed for more DC-based series though.

@Fares - that's a fair assessment. Netflix has a few high peaks (Ozark!) with many shows, whereas Disney is more consistent with fewer shows.

For me, both their content averages out at about 3 out of 5 stars. While HBO should indeed keep doing it's own thing, because that definitely is a 4 out of 5 stars on average I'd give their shows.

Look at Marvel Studios being a good player and giving some background to the audience before their show airs, is really damn cool i'll watch tho i'm pretty familiar with the character, hope we get more of these with other superheroes in upcoming shows.

I assume A Fan's Guide To... is the equivalent of Marvel Legends for characters that haven't appeared before and thus require no recap. Can see She-Hulk get one too

I don’t think I’m allowed to watch this. I’m a white dude over 40. It wasn’t made for me. 😁
