THE MARVELS Star Iman Vellani Wants Ms. Marvel To Join The X-MEN In The MCU

Kamala Khan was revealed to be a mutant in the Disney+ Ms. Marvel series, and Iman Vellani would love to see her character join the X-Men in the Marvel Cinematic Universe down the line...

Somewhat controversially for long-time fans of the character, Kamala Khan was revealed to be a mutant in the season finale of the Ms. Marvel Disney+ series, ret-conning her Inhuman status from the comic books.

This new origin soon carried over to the page (though she also retains her Inhuman-ness), with Khan becoming the latest member of the X-Men, and this is the direction The Marvels star Iman Vellani would like to see her character take on the screen.

During an interview with ComicBook.com, Vellani was asked which super-team she'd most like to see Kamala throw in with in the MCU.

"On the big screen? X-Men. I don't think that's a bad answer. I think the X-Men is so cool, and it really just marks her as a legitimate mutant and all the naysayers can no longer say nay."

Over the years, we've seen younger mutants positioned as "audience surrogates" of a sort (Kitty Pryde in the comics, Jubilee in the animated series, Rogue in the Fox movies), and Vellani was asked if this is something we could see for her take on the teenage hero.

"I never thought about that. Because I still have my own X-Men characters that I look back to, and I think those books are so timeless in a way," she responded. "I was just reading Grant Morrison's run and Chris Claremont, which Chris Claremont's a little edgy sometimes, but the Grant Morrison stuff is like... I can read it a million times. I think it totally works. But it is cool for people to kind of accept her as a mutant now. And I don't know if people are actually looking to her as the literal new mutant and this is the new generation. But yeah, I don't think that's for me to say. I think the audience will take these two miniseries that I've done, and hopefully they're happy with the results."

Would you like to see Ms. Marvel join the X-Men when the team eventually makes its MCU debut? Drop us a comment down below.

"In Marvel Studios’ The Marvels, Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel has reclaimed her identity from the tyrannical Kree and taken revenge on the Supreme Intelligence. But unintended consequences see Carol shouldering the burden of a destabilized universe. When her duties send her to an anomalous wormhole linked to a Kree revolutionary, her powers become entangled with that of Jersey City super-fan Kamala Khan, aka Ms. Marvel, and Carol’s estranged niece, now S.A.B.E.R. astronaut Captain Monica Rambeau. Together, this unlikely trio must team up and learn to work in concert to save the universe as The Marvels.”

The film also stars Zawe Ashton and Park Seo-joon. Nia DaCosta directs, and Kevin Feige is the producer. Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Mary Livanos and Matthew Jenkins serve as executive producers. The screenplay is by Megan McDonnell, Nia DaCosta, Elissa Karasik and Zeb Wells.

The Marvels is now available to stream on Disney+ and to purchase on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and DVD.

I wouldn’t mind her taking the place of a wide eyed Jubilee.

@McMurdo - 😂

I agree Jubilee is better, but I’d take Ms Marvel as a consolation in this current environment.

@TheFlash31 - I’d prefer that too, but I don’t think she’s going anywhere.

Trying to be a realist here

@JustAWaffle - that recent trailer looked pretty epic from like a few days back. The animation is old school but it's like Uber updated in its mechanics if that makes any sense.

@McMurdo - Yeah. The retro animation with the modern polish looks really good.

@Nomis929 - I think the Rogue cover is better but both classic.

Here is one more for you to look up Uncanny X-Men #219.

F*ck I love The X-Men.

@Nomis929 - I started collecting Uncanny X-Men from 205,so I hadn't been collecting long when that issue came out.

@marvel72 - I start collecting X-men around issue #90 when it was a REPRINT book of earlier issues and then I got Giant Size # 1 because I recognized Wolverine on the cover and he recently been in the classic incredible Hulk # 180 - 182 and I wanted to see what he was doing in this team up book.

I Went thru all the classic Chris Claremont/Dave Cockrum/JOhn Byrne/Dave Cockrum(again) issues as a teen but stop collecting around the time Dave Cockrum left again, but I got back into collecting them when Jim Lee came aboard in teh late '80s and early '90s.

I really haven't collect the title on a regular basis but I picked up many collected additions since then. The last X-men titl i collect regualarly was Astonishing X-mnen.

I don't mind it. By the time we'll see her again, she's probably too old for the Young Avengers like all the other potential YA recruits anyway.

Don't really need to see her on the main X-Men team though, but I could see her hang around the school. Think a show about the day-to-day at the school that focuses on smaller villains could be fun.
DiegoMD
DiegoMD - 3/15/2024, 1:49 PM
I don´t. I really like her, but I don´t like the idea of her outshadowing X-Men mainstays like Jubille, Kitty Pryde or even Armor (she already kinda stole her powers). Have her lead Young Avengers and maybe be involved with X-Men, but don´t make her the "Jubilee" of the group!
Apophis71
Apophis71 - 3/15/2024, 2:15 PM
@DiegoMD - Certainly prefer the idea of her being one of the core younger Avenger team members but interacting with the Xmen and forming a bond with members like Kitty or Jubilee could be cool at some point.

Main thing is establishing the first Xmen team who should all have been pre-90's members in the comics. Can have background ones who end up on the team down the road, and nothing against Kamala ending up in the school if a narrative reason for it even, but estalish the core starting team first.

At some point there will likely be sorm form of Avengers V Xmen thing and at that point having some of the currently established charactersnsiding with the mutants (which could include Ms. Marvel) could work well for that sort of thing but that wouldn't likely occur until the end of phase 8 or in phase 9 setting up the chessboard for the final like Civil War did (assuming both still around having Cpt Marvel and Ms Marvel on opposing sides could be fun).

She'll definitely be on the team, as Marvel can't stop pushing her on their audience, despite every project she's in completely failing.

@Th3Batman - What a vain and petty comment when her introduction in Ms. Marvel was welcomed with open arms by critics and the fandom.

I get you're having a bad week after The Batman was delayed until 2026 but make an attempt to not be such a lame, sore wet blanket.

@HammerLegFoot -

What are ya'll talking about? What I'm not seeing? Most I'm seeing is general complaints about MCU and not wanting her in X-Men. What's hatred about that?
dinkdock1
dinkdock1 - 3/15/2024, 4:53 PM
@HammerLegFoot - I don't mind the character so much, but I find the actress downright annoying on screen. They keep presenting her as comedic and she's not funny at all nor especially charming. She keeps coming across like the drunk, loud guy at the party who thinks he's funny but he's not. If she makes a cameo in the X-Men and then promptly gets off the screen, I'm fine with that. She seems to ruin every scene she's in. The Marvels was a horrible experience largely because of her - and I'm a big MCU fan...

She's a great character, it's kind of a shame the Inhumans aren't in a better place to leverage that story. It's got a great mythos.

She doesn't want a lot, does she?
Izaizaiza
Izaizaiza - 3/15/2024, 1:54 PM
I actually think that's a great idea. She's a fantastic character, but doesn't seem to be able to carry a project on her own. Would also be right in line with what is happening in the comics.
