MS. MARVEL Rumored To Make Some Big GREEN LANTERN-Style Changes To Kamala Khan's MCU Powers

We already know that it's unlikely Marvel Studios will delve into Kamala Khan's Inhuman roots in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but it sounds like some big changes are being made to her embiggening powers.

In the comic books, Kamala Khan's powers are activated when the Terrigen Mists are unleashed on Earth and she's revealed as one of many of the planet's dormant Inhumans. Gaining what have since been dubbed "embiggening" powers, the young girl names herself Ms. Marvel in tribute to her own personal hero, Captain Marvel. Unfortunately, not all of that origin will work in the MCU.

For starters, Inhumans don't currently exist in the MCU, and we've already heard rumblings that Kamala's powers will come from the Kree Nega-Bands used by the original Mar-Vell in the comics. This would also goes some way towards explaining why she'll play a role in The Marvels, and a leaked image of the hero (see below) indicated that her powers could be portrayed in a vastly different way in Ms. Marvel.

Now, that may have been confirmed in a rumour shared by "scooper," Daniel Richtman.

"Ms. Marvel will still have her embiggening powers but it'd look more like...Green Lantern, less Mr. Fantastic," he claims. This does make sense, as it should avoid any confusion with Reed Richards when he shows up, though it's hard to escape the feeling we're missing out on something special here. The Avengers video game wasn't that memorable, but seeing Kamala in action was really cool, and a visual that arguably can't be replicated by energy fields.

It's inevitable this will upset some fans, but without seeing Ms. Marvel in action, we can't really judge whether this will improve on the source material or ultimately do it a disservice. This also essentially means that Kamala will use tech to be a superhero and won't have superpowers beyond that.

Only time will tell whether this works. Marvel Studios certainly hasn't steered us wrong in the past, but it wouldn't be a bad thing for Kevin Feige and company to hurry up and introduce Inhumans, already!

That’s a way more generic way to do it. But at the same time it’s understandable if they want Mr. Fantastic to have a monopoly on the stretching abilities. If we had already seen Kamala use stretchy powers it would be way less impactful to see Reed do the same things a couple of years later

Similar situation, assuming they changed Taskmaster so his powers wouldn’t be too similar to Echo.

It would suck because people having the same powers shouldn’t be that big of a deal but as long as it looks cool, it’s whatever. Part of the fun is having them go head to head to with a similar power set.

@Doomsday8888 - My guess? Because stretchy powers always look really bad and often gross and offputting in live action. And a tv budget, even one as high as these Marvel shows, probably isn’t the best place to fix that.

@BloopBlorp2
Tv budget could a reason, yes.

Reckon that's why Bruce Banner popped up in Shang-Chi outta nowhere just in time for the She-Hulk tv series.

Heh, couldn't afford that Endgame tier VFX on him this time.

@BloopBlorp2 - And also, like the article said, it's probably cuz they wanna leave room for Mr Fantastic when he eventually arrives

@BloopBlorp2 - I mean, if that's the case then fantastic four probably wasn't the best choice for them.

@BloopBlorp2 - Nah. It's because they want to differentiate her from Mr. Fantastic, who they wouldn't be bringing the the big screen if they were scared of doing stretchy powers.

I hope the Inhumans are revisited in the future. It's another obscure property I wanted to see be turned into gold.

I'm gonna stay optimistic and hope the creators and crew will be as authentic as possible with this series.

I was hoping they don't change anything about her powers. Her embiggening look is honestly such an iconic part of her character.
