MS. MARVEL Star Iman Vellani And Producer Tease Kamala Khan's MCU Future Beyond THE MARVELS

Ms. Marvel star Iman Vellani and producer Sana Amanat have weighted in with their thoughts on what lies ahead for Kamala Khan beyond The Marvels, and it sounds like they both hope to return to New Jersey.

Newcomer Iman Vellani earned herself a legion of fans after playing Kamala Khan in Ms. Marvel, and she'll return as the mutant superhero in The Marvels next year.

What the future holds in store for her beyond that team-up remains to be seen, especially as Marvel Studios has yet to announce any season 2 plans. That seems like the logical next step (especially with fans keen to spend more time with Kamala's family and friends), though it's possible the character will become a permanent fixture on the big screen.

Talking at the Makers Conference (via The Direct), Ms. Marvel producer Sana Amanat weighed in on Kamala's MCU future and possible season 2 plans.

"I knew when we started that Kamala was going to end up in The Marvels. I didn’t know what was going to happen in that movie because they rightfully didn’t tell me 'cause I’m a little chatterbox. But I knew that’s what we were building to," she explains. "That she had to be [ready] by the end of our show to go and do whatever it is that’s going to happen in The Marvels."

"And what her future in the MCU after that, you know, we’re a few years out, I’m old. I might have retired by then, who knows? Who knows what’s gonna happen if there’s a Season 2 or not."

Vellani also shared her thoughts on what comes next, suggesting The Marvels will be where we see her become a full-fledged superhero. However, Kamala's future beyond her adventure with Captain Marvel and Spectrum is what the actress appears most excited to explore.

"I think it’s going to be a very fun time to see Kamala post-Marvels," she teases. "And you know, having become this fully formed superhero and then fully on her own where she goes from that, coming back to her hometown after...fighting with her favorite superhero and then coming back to Jersey. I think that’s going to be a really fun thing to play with."

Seeing as the MCU's Ms. Marvel is a mutant, we're expecting her to eventually cross paths with the X-Men. Making her part of that team would be an interesting move on Marvel Studios' part, though it may go a long way in helping to distinguish the MCU reboot from Fox's movies. Unfortunately, there's still no official word on when the team will debut.

The Marvels is set to be released in theaters on July 28, 2023.

Is anyone still excited for the mcu?

@Lokiwasright - For me, not as much as Phases 1-3. I'm still looking out for a few projects. Ant-Man 3 and GotG3 are keeping me interested, I was also pleasantly surprised by WBN. I'm curious to see what happens with Vision. But i'm not excited for every single project they announce like I used to.

@OrgasmicPotatoe - and I think that's ok

@Lokiwasright - Yes, but in a different way I was before. I’m excited for its future and the unpredictability around it. We knew where Phase 1, 2, and 3 were leading, and they stuck the landing. And yeah, we know what this saga is about, but they’ve clearly mapped something far beyond this saga, and with all the new pieces and characters being introduced, the MCU is really starting to feel like the massive sprawled universe that we know from the comics.

They’re firing on all cylinders now, holding nothing back. A few weeks ago, I watched Werewolf by Night save Man Thing, She-Hulk hook up with Daredevil, and on a few weeks, Namor’s going to war with Wakanda. That’s where we’re at now, and for me, this is very exciting.

@Lokiwasright - Not at all, I've pretty much checked out now. There is no story being told that is interesting anymore. Stories of multiverses, time travel and introducing replacement kid heroes is just not very exciting at all. That GOTG Christmas special looks like it could be fun and I'm excited for Deadpool and Wolvy but that's years away. DC future is pretty exciting now though so I'm hoping for success there.

I really liked her show, it was fun and the family was fun too. I really hope The Marvels showcases her powers better.

Keen eyed folks (found mostly elsewhere, not necessarily the incessant complainers on this site) are saying they see similarities between Kangs Kronopolis from Ant man 3 trailer, the Nega bands, and Shang Chis ten rings. Almost as if they all originate from the same place, or person...

Looking forward to hearing the "phase 4 is not connected" people's jaw drop to the floor when they finally piece it all together.

@Vigor - People act like they knew everything about Phase 3 back in 2011, and now because they can’t see a clear path of where everything is leading and how it’s connected, they think Kevin’s throwing spaghetti at the wall. It’s crazy that Feige can do all he’s done to earn the good will he deserves, and people still doubt him as if they know how to steer this ship at all, let alone better than him.

@PlusUltra - Was the Infinity Saga building towards a boss fight with Thanos. There was nothing to figure out, it was all set in motion during the Avengers end credit where Thanos showed up for the first time. Before then it was about building the team which was made clear at the end of The Incredible Hulk with the introduction of the "Avengers Initiative" to gather Heroes to protect the world. Story was clearly defined and the fun was in watching it unfold.

@PlusUltra - exactly!
It's frustrating to me almost at a personal level. "You're only as good as your last hit" <- that mindset is corrosive.
