MS. MARVEL's Rating Is A First For The Marvel Cinematic Universe On Disney+

Ms. Marvel premieres on Disney+ on June 8, and some officially released details from Disney confirm that this series will have a different rating to any other MCU movie or TV show on the streamer.

Aside from a trailer and TV spot, we've seen very little from Disney+'s Ms. Marvel. Of course, enough has been shown for some fans to be left unhappy that Kamala Khan's powers have been drastically altered. Instead of being portrayed as an Inhuman with "Embiggening" powers, the young hero will instead wear gauntlets (Nega-Bands?) that give Kamala her Green Lantern-style abilities. 

Now, another surprise has been revealed with the news Ms. Marvel will be the first Marvel Cinematic Universe project with a TV-PG rating. Every other Marvel Studios TV show and movie on Disney+ has been given PG-13 or TV-14 ratings, so Ms. Marvel will clearly be a lot more family-friendly.

This makes sense in many ways as Kamala is very much the sort of character who can and will appeal to young fans. Whether this means Ms. Marvel will avoid the sort of adult themes and storylines we've seen in shows like The Falcon and The Winter Soldier and Moon Knight remains to be seen, but it's pretty much guaranteed that the series won't include action that's too hard-hitting or violent!

Expect more details to be revealed on the highly anticipated Disney+ series in the coming weeks. 

"Ms. Marvel is a new, original series that introduces Kamala Khan, a Muslim American teenager growing up in Jersey City. An avid gamer and a voracious fan-fiction scribe, Kamala is a Super Hero mega fan with an oversized imagination—particularly when it comes to Captain Marvel. Yet Kamala feels like she doesn’t fit in at school and sometimes even at home—that is, until she gets super powers like the heroes she’s always looked up to. Life gets better with super powers, right?"

It's was recently confirmed that joining Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel are Aramis Knight, Saagar Shaikh, Rish Shah, Zenobia Shroff, Mohan Kapur, Matt Lintz, Yasmeen Fletcher, Laith Nakli, Azhar Usman, Travina Springer, and Nimra Bucha. Bisha K. Ali is the show's Head Writer, while episodes were directed by Adil El Arbi & Bilall Fallah, Meera Menon and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.

Ms. Marvel premieres on Disney+ on June 8.

Kind of surprised, but also not shocked with how the trailer looked. Does this mean fighting will be at a minimum and instead will focus on her just trying to be a teenage girl with powers?

I'll give this show a try but it isn't anything i'm dying to see or anticipated like MoonKnight and Dr Strange MoM

@MotherGooseUPus - While animation is often given more leeway, keep in mind that both The Incredibles had PG rating, while having a fair share of violence.

@FinnishDude - true, but thats animated violence and not live... plus there was no blood etc.. in the Incredibles, which, is one of the best superhero movies of all time, imo

@Waddles - I don't completely disagree with that statement (you could make an argument that she's up there over the past 20 years, but I Miles is by far more popular). However, I think the problem is that there are so many trash characters from the last 20 years. I won't make any predictions about the show. It looks interesting enough. But, it could flop. It might be hard to convince the core MCU audience to buy-in to a teen drama show (IF that is what it ends up being). I get that those shows can work, and they can sustain, but there is a reason that the CW isn't known as a top network, you know?

@Waddles - That's exactly right. I'm glad that, so far, MCUD+ has been avoiding the allure of just having shows continue to run without a plan. It's what ruins far too many shows on network television. A smart network who wants to dominate would make show creators provide the ending and how many seasons they need up front, and hold them to it. The difference between shows with a plan and those who are just trying to trudge along is massive.

I'm also not opposed to a little "fun" or "light" show. A change of pace could be nice. That was my hope for "What If?", but they ruined that. It was tailor-made for an anthology series. Why they felt the need to serialize it is beyond me.

Not my thing, but that's great. Bring in as many fans who like that kinda thing, and slowly indoctrinate into our cult. Soon they will ALL be nerds.



But seriously, not everything has to be my cup of tea. For example, I'm a theme park guy. Orlando is like an hour away. I'm a grown ass geeky Star Wars fan. I actually like Star Wars Galaxy's Edge. We were there for the rope drop opening day. We have gone back many times since. I'm not a fan of the Sequel trilogy. And boy, I let it be known back then lol.

But when I go to the parks, I see little girls obsessing over Rey. They dress like her, and go crazy when they see the Rey cast member. Doesn't matter if I like the character or not, a new Star Wars fan was born. We all win.

Teenage heroes might not be my thing whether it’s Spider-man, the Teen Titans, or Ms. Marvel and less action sure doesn’t help my excitement but for what it is this show looks great. And the actual truth is this could be Marvel’s lowest rated Disney+ show and still be a huge success as long the show is bringing new and different people under the tent.

@Waddles - I'm just not a fan of most things with the Disney name on it. (I do like Robin Hood and Lion King though)

I guess I dont care for many modern movies that are rated PG.

Not surprised in the least bit. The trailer felt a bit like a more expensive Disney Channel affair (not necessarily a criticism). I don't think I'm the target audience, but I'm looking forward to it. Seems wholesome.

It looks much more orientated towards younger people, which is fine. I doesn’t really appeal me sort from the clips they have shown.
