Marvel's SECRET INVASION Is Currently The Lowest Rated MCU TV Show On Rotten Tomatoes And Metacritic

Of the nine MCU television shows released on Disney+ to date, Marvel's Secret Invasion has the lowest scores on Rotten Tomatoes and Meta critic.

The TV side of Phase 5 of the MCU is off to a very inauspicious start. Marvel's Secret Invasion just wrapped up its 6-episode run and it currently ranks as the lowest-scored Marvel television show on Rotten Tomatoes.

  1. Ms. Marvel 98%-critics; 80%- audience score
  2. What If...? 94%- critics; 93% audience score
  3. Loki 92% - critics; 90% audience score
  4. Hawkeye 92%- critics; 89% audience score
  5. WandaVision 91%-critics; 88%- audience score
  6. Moon Knight 86% - critics; 89% audience score
  7. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier 84%-critics; 82%- audience score
  8.  She-Hulk: Attorney at Law 77%-critics; 32% audience score
  9. Secret Invasion 60% - critics; 66% audience score

Over on Metacritic, the rankings are more or less the same, with Ms. Marvel taking the top slot once again, however, What If...? falls from #2 down to #6, while WandaVision moves up from #5 to #2.

  1. Ms. Marvel - 78 score
  2. WandaVision - 77 socre
  3. Loki -74 score
  4. Falcon and the Winter Soldier - 74 score
  5. Moon Knight - 69 score
  6. What If...?  - 69 score
  7. She-Hulk: Attorney at Law - 67 score
  8. Hawekeye - 66 score
  9. Secret Invasion - 63 score

It doesn't bode well for Marvel's television future that the two most recently released MCU shows, She-Hulk and Secret Invasion, are the first Marvel shows to dip below the 80% mark. Secret Invasion is also reportedly one of the MCU's lowest-watched Disney+ shows to date while also being one of its most expensive to produce.

Thankfully, Loki season 2 is the next MCU show on the horizon, and it should right the ship as long as it allows Tom Hiddleston and Sophia Di Martino to shine.

Things get a little murkier after Loki season 2, as the next MCU shows to hit Disney+ are currently Echo, Ironheart, and Agatha: Coven of Chaos.

Also in development are an untitled Wakanda spinoff, Marvel Zombies, Wonder Man, and Vision Quest. But given Disney CEO Bob Iger's recent comments that Marvel Studios may be stretching themselves too thin, one has to wonder if some of these in-development shows get the axe.

@GhostDog - It definitely wasn't the best, but it had some moments that i dug. The dialogue and chemistry between Jackson and Mendelsohn was great, Olivia Coleman was a scene stealer in every single appearance and Kngsley Ben-Adir gave a hell of a performance from his usual quiet reserved type. He also elevated this villian more than it was probably written to be. I kind of wished he would have been used as another big bad. But there's always the DC reboots coming...as long as he doesn't get super in demand after he's won an Oscar for playing Bob Marley, lol.

Sam Jackson is old though and it's really showing, credit to him to committing to it though, but I just can't buy it anymore that he's that physically intimidating for the antagonists to get past.

@UniqNo - It had bright spots but the bright spots being enough is getting tiresome for me.

Moon Knight started off well and had bright spots. Then it became rushed at the end. Everything outside of Loki and WandaVision has been a swell of scattered bright spots in a banal ocean.

Adir is my pick for either The Question or Bronze Tiger (if they can't get a more marital arts inclined actor)

Damn , that sucks it’s gotten a somewhat mixed response but oh well.

I haven’t seen the finale yet but I was liking the show…

Sure it wasn’t the epic event that the comic was but as a more intimate character showcase for characters such as Fury , I was enjoying it but that’s just me.

Anyway , I have enjoyed all the shows to varying extents personally with What If and She Hulk probably being my 2 least favorites.

@TheVisionary25 - the finale was not good I felt like they could have left a lot of things unsaid or undone and it will have been better....loved it till episode 4....the fighting and death was well earned but what they did with the last 2 episodes not good.... short and rushed

@PlusUltra - what? They jsut set up earth as hostile to all aliens, peace talks between kree and skrulls and a secret team of skrulls active on earth working with the good guys? How is that nothing lol

@Toonstrack - Peace talks between Kree and Skrulls?

We haven seen the Kree since Captain Marvel. And the Skrulls have been a tiny part of the MCU until this show. We haven't even seen a Kree/Skrull war taking place. So why should I care if they are having peace talks? The Kree/Skrull war has been non-existent.

A secret team of Skrulls working with the good guys.

We've also known that for a long time.

@CorndogBurglar - you're gonna be seeing a lot more of the kree and the skrulls because given everything we've seen it appears they are setting up annihilation, and novas arrival.

@Toonstrack -
"one of them is literally getting followed up on in the next movie lmfao"
Nope. None of them are.

"They just set up earth as hostile to all aliens"

Irrelevant, the villain in Captain Marvel 2 is attacking regardless of Earth's stance purely for the actions of Captain Marvel decades prior. New Asgard is filled with aliens, every Asgardian is an alien and you have Korg and other beings.

"peace talks between kree and skrulls"

That's the situation the Kree/Skrull have been in the entire time, it's irrelevant because it's not going to be a motivation for any character in Captain Marvel 2. According to the leaked script it was not even mentioned.

"a secret team of skrulls active on earth working with the good guys?"

Its just Fury and presumably S.W.O.R.D which we already knew from the trailer and Spider-man: Far From Home. There was already a secret team of Skrulls active on earth working with the good guys as of Spider-man: Far From Home - so it's just telling you what we already knew from 4 IRL years ago.
Toonstrack
Toonstrack - 7/27/2023, 6:54 PM
@Scarilian - I'm not basing my opinions on leaked scripts nor am I reading them.

Beyond the next film, these precedents could be massive or they could not be so massive, but they definitely happened.

And they wouldn't have done it if it wasn't going to matter.

"Beyond the next film, these precedents could be massive or they could not be so massive, but they definitely happened."

Yes, they happened, but they are irrelevant.

• Captain America 4 is focused around a Hydra splinter-group and Hulk
• Thunderbolts is focused around a rogue Government Supersoldier
• Blade is vampires in an alternate part of the multiverse and probably won't even get made

Fantastic Four is the ONLY film where any of this might matter and even then from early remarks it seems to just be about Silver Surfer and Galactus, so a repeat of Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer where the military do something that injures Silver Surfer.

"And they wouldn't have done it if it wasn't going to matter."

They would and have done in the past because that's how a majority of the MCU works. You leave a bunch of cards on the table in the hopes someone else might use them, usually these cards are in the form of character development, ongoing themes or simply world events that should have ramifications. The only problem being we've reached a stage where none of the writers are watching the material that came before, so they'll never pick up these threads.

Nobody is going to sit down and watch Secret Invasion before scripting a new film and even if they did they have piles of cards that were never picked up just scattered about so it makes picking up three of them meaningless. At the current schedule in two years Secret Wars rolls around all of this gets rebooted. They know nothing matters now which is probably why everyone who gave a shit stopped caring about doing a good job.
Toonstrack
Toonstrack - 7/28/2023, 11:26 PM
@Scarilian - they're going to sit down and watch it if thats what they are hired to do. Do you think this shows writers didnt watch captain marvel?

Your complaint makes no sense. They leave things on the table to possible be actioned later. Sometimes it happens sometimes it doesn't. But when they have a specific intent for a follow up, aside form DS2, they do in fact refer to past occurrences.
Scarilian
Scarilian - 7/30/2023, 6:53 AM
@Toonstrack -
"they're going to sit down and watch it if thats what they are hired to do."

They are not hired to do that anymore. They no longer read the comics, which those involved have stated they no longer do and have been discouraged from doing, then what makes you think they'll have watched the media?

Rian Johnson was given Star Wars The Last Jedi and claimed not to have watched The Force Awakens - why do you think Disney would enforce the idea of watching the prior media. By the time Kang Dynasty rolls around, do you think the writers will have watched all of Phase 1-6 along with any supporting media along with additional media needed for multiverse cameos or understanding? No.

We know the people who made Secret Invasion did not watch Captain Marvel or Endgame due to the contradictions and we know the people making Captain Marvel 2 have not watched Secret Invasion because Captain Marvel 2 was completed prior to Secret Invasion being completed.

Doctor Strange 2 was supposed to follow on from WandaVision, yet they did not watch WandaVision. We keep seeing this over and over again.

What a horrible show and such a wasted opportunity and wasted great comic book story.

Marvel was much better with Perlmutter keeping Feige in check.

@regularmovieguy - He ran Marvel until Age of Ultron.
Feige came up with ideas, but Perlmutter was the one giving the red or green light...is the reason we never got Captain Marvel or Black Panther until he left (he though movies with a female or black lead wouldnt sell), but on the other hand, he obviously had a cold head, and wont aprove shit like the Agatha show.

regularmovieguy - 7/26/2023, 2:16 PM
@TheHumanSpider2

It goes beyond adding more diversity into the movies, dude was cheap and didn’t want to extend RDJ’s contract to include Civil War.

I’m not saying Feige isn’t very responsible for the shows we’re getting now but Disney+ was also Iger’s and Disney’s brainchild. They all share responsibility for the influx of mediocre content we’re getting. But saying Perlmutter kept a leash on Feige and made good decisions at the company is laughable.

TheHumanSpider2 - 7/26/2023, 3:29 PM
@regularmovieguy - He was cheap, racist, and mysoginist, but its undeniable the MCU's decline started after they started releasing stuff he didnt greenlight.

Perlmutter was in charge of the MCU until 2015, he obviously took some good choices, and Disney+ debacle was aaaaaaall Feige.

"but its undeniable the MCU's decline started after they started releasing stuff he didnt greenlight."

Their decline arguably didn't start until after Endgame... and that was long after Ike had any hand in Marvel. You could argue Marvel's best years was completely without Perlmutter, lmao.
TheHumanSpider2
TheHumanSpider2 - 7/26/2023, 3:46 PM
@regularmovieguy - Endgame (as "Infinity War - Part 2") was announced in 2015, with Perlmutter still in charge (the final battle in that movie started development in 2016, before there was even a script).

With the exception of Black Panther and Captain Marvel, the entirity of Phase 3 was greenlighted under Perlmutter...and nobody will admit it know, but back in 2017, Black Panther was considered a huuuuuuuuuuge gamble.
regularmovieguy
regularmovieguy - 7/26/2023, 3:55 PM
@TheHumanSpider2

I can't believe there's actually dudes here simping Ike Perlmutter. You're acting like "greenlighting" Avengers 3 and 4 is some 4D-chess shit and not some no-brainer decision making, lmao.

Also.. Black Panther and Captain Marvel both grossed a billion dollars at the height of Marvel's popularity and when Ike Perlmutter had been ousted 3 years prior. Just stop. It's not like Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the MCU were anything special to begin with.
