SECRET INVASION: New Details Emerge About Issues Behind The Scenes Which May Have Doomed The Series

New details have been revealed about what went wrong with Secret Invasion behind the scenes, and it sounds like creative issues were at the heart of Marvel Studios' worst-reviewed TV show. Check it out...

Secret Invasion got off to a strong start on Disney+ with some big twists, a compelling premise, and a fantastic performance from Samuel L. Jackson. Unfortunately, the show's quality declined after those first two instalments and the finale was, for lack of a better word, dreadful.

Now the worst-reviewed MCU TV series, it's clear something went wrong, but the extent of the show's issues have been revealed by The Hollywood Reporter.

According to the trade, Mr. Robot's Kyle Bradstreet had been working on Secret Invasion's scripts for roughly a year when he was fired. Marvel Studios had decided to head in a different direction and turned to Brian Tucker (Broken City), Thomas Bezucha (Let Him Go), and Ali Selim (The Looming Tower) to crack the story.

That's pretty much the norm for Marvel Studios, but "in the summer of 2022, debilitated the production as factions became entrenched and leaders vied for supremacy during Secret Invasion’s preproduction in London. 'It was weeks of people not getting along, and it erupted,' says an insider."

Jonathan Schwartz, a senior executive at Marvel Studios and a member of its creative Parliament, was sent to get the show back on track and by September 2022, much of the show's creative team was gone. The executive tasked with overseeing the show, Chris Gary, was reassigned and is now expected to leave the company.

Other Disney+ TV shows said to have suffered similar problems include Moon Knight and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. In the latter's case, while Jessica Gao developed and wrote the show, she was sidelined when director Kat Coiro came on board.

Moving forward, it's said the idea is to tell more personal stories. Echo, for example, "is a grounded crime story with few visual effects." As for Wonder Man, "[it's] meant to be a behind-the-scenes look at Hollywood and a character study of Simon Williams, a superhero who has a side gig as an actor and stuntperson."

These details come after news broke earlier today that Marvel Studios is going back to the drawing board with Daredevil: Born Again. The show is being completely rebooted from a creative level and will enlist a new creative team to start from scratch. Thankfully, it sounds like the plan is to address many of the issues mentioned throughout this story.

As for Secret Invasion, despite the show being billed as an important new chapter in the saga of the Skrulls, we're hearing it's not even referenced in The Marvels

Stay tuned for updates.

And now we're gonna get 50 articles from one Hollywood Reporter article.. anyway I was right about the chopped up scripts! You shall all acknowledge meeeeee. Luckily they listened to feedback from people like me and not the mindless masses. It seems Feige is a real boy after all

I forgot to add this series to the MCU tv shit list. Such a forgettable series.

I really hope the MCU tv division is going in a much better direction now.

I was actually enjoying Secret Invasion and will say I still mostly did but that finale was weak and sadly hurt the overall show for me.

Anyway , I just hope this new plan moving forward works because you can’t treat tv shows the same as movies…

They have their own rhythm and pace , it’s a different medium then the big screen.

I hope this all works out for the best!!.

The only real issue I had was the way they left Kiah with all the Avengers powers. Other than that I enjoyed it for what it was

Should’ve been a special presentation movie. For a spy thriller it was too predictable and really felt like lower quality tv show than a Marvel Studios production.
Might be the most disappointing MCU series/film.

Tbh.. i never watched the Agents of SHIELD show but this was a missed opportunity to bring all of that cast back, would have had better victims that people are already attached to who could have bit it and played on and brought in a whole Thing horror movie paranoia angle

Good. Hopefully at most they'll just use a throwaway line concerning the series.

The dude was an awful villain, intimidation, zero charisma, zero acting ability. He was as out of place as that dude who played Bakuto from Iron Fist.

Slowly we're gonna learn all about the last couple of years of toned down oversight and quality control due to the large amount of projects over at Marvel. Plenty of the shows have been messy af, even Moon Knight, which I actually kind of loved. Secret Invasion is their low point so far and it didn't even have any particularly bad ideas on paper. But it was just so lazily put together. Like they didn't even care or they didn't have the time. It's almost offensive how poorly developed the Skrull characters were. Almost a hate crime. Let's not even bring on the politics of the show, which made Falcon and the Winter Soldier seem nuanced.

Secret Invasion should've been an event series for the MCU. It's such a shame how it turned out.
BritishMonkey
BritishMonkey - 10/11/2023, 6:02 PM
They can use this as an opportunity to quietly retcon Secret Invasion as not being canon.
But what an unsurprising mess Marvel has been the last couple of years.
