SECRET INVASION Director Explains Super-Skrull's Debut And The MCU's New Most Powerful Hero - SPOILERS

Secret Invasion's finale featured the debut of two Super-Skrulls, and the show's director has now addressed that big final battle and what it could mean for the MCU to have such a powerful new super-being.

In Secret Invasion's season finale, Gravik used "The Harvest" to imbue himself with the powers of everyone from Captain Marvel to Thor and The Hulk. However, little did he realise Gi'ah had disguised herself as Nick Fury, meaning she too received the upgrade!

The two Super-Skrulls proceeded to square off in New Skrullos, though it was Gi'ah who ultimately got the better of her former leader by blasting a hole through his chest that not even all those newly acquired abilities could heal.

Talking to Variety, Secret Invasion director Ali Selim credited Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige for creating the MCU's most powerful being in Gi'ah.

"Well, simply put, it comes from Kevin Feige, who says, 'It’s all fair game.' That’s best expressed in the moment when Gravik takes the vial from Nick Fury, puts it in the computer where it is analyzed, and we see all the pure superpowers ever. That’s like the moment where we’re like, 'OK, this is going to be something.'"

During a separate conversation with Entertainment Weekly, the filmmaker offers some insights into how and why Gi'ah was ultimately able to overpower Gravik.

"What's fun is you watch these powers reveal themselves not only to the audience, but to G'iah, who is a little bit unaware that she has all this power. She knew she had power, but not exactly how and when to use it — and why it works better for her, a strong powerful woman, rather than a deluded male. [Laughs]"

Selim went on to say that President Ritson declaring war on Earth's remaining Skrulls was a deliberate way of not ending Secret Invasion too neatly. "The choice was: Do we want a Pollyanna ending, or do we want an ending with some real guts to it?" he explains. "The idea is that this battle could go on. But Sonya and G'iah reconcile at the end, and maybe they're going to fix it."

"Maybe these two strong, beautiful women are going to come in and fix it."

They'll presumably be fixing it off-screen as more Secret Invasion is unlikely. As for Gi'ah's role as the MCU's Super-Skrull and its most powerful hero, we have to believe she'll take centre stage in a future story, though your guess is as good as ours when it comes to what that's going to be.

Phase 4 was, however, full of lingering plot threads and this Phase looks no different. Remember that marble Celestial in the Indian Ocean? Close to two years after Eternals was released and several movies and TV shows later, it's yet to be referenced in a meaningful fashion.

With that in mind, Gi'ah might be benched for the foreseeable future!

The hierarchy of power just changed. Our newest most powerful MCU character is here, the one and only Gi’ah! Comic fans rejoice!

@mountainman - Agree, the top of the hierarchy of power in the MCU are these woke directors and writers who are just pulling ideas outta their asses. Next thing we know Megan The Stallion is going to be a super skrull with Latoo and Nicki Minaj whose going to be whooping everyone's ass with a twerk or booty slam lol.

Damn that arrowverse guy who said the MCU needs a reboot doesn't sound too stupid right now.

Marvel…y’all really can’t afford to fall this low ever again. This year has been hell for them outside of GOTG 3

@GhostDog - Well, they "were" being stretched too thin, so now that they are cutting back on their workload, hopefully things will improve for the majority of the audience (I've been fine with it all).

@LSHF @GhostDog - Yeah, same here. I've been fine with all of it (with some that I've like more than others), but I can understand the criticisms. Now that Iger's back in and he clearly wants to scale back the MCU output (plus we keep hearing about the focus being back on quality over quantity), we should (hopefully) start to see things get back on track. And along with that comes Feige being back in better control of the MCU. I don't know how much control Chapek took away from him, but I'm pretty sure that Feige wouldn't have had Marvel kicking out so much content so quickly if he had full control. Kevin seems like the kind of guy who wants to sit and watch each and every production and give his input as needed, which he simply wasn't able to do with the shear amount of content that was being turned out during Phase 4. Hence why the creatives had more control and why things seemed more disjointed.

Now, of course, only time will tell if Marvel will be able to return to that "quantity over quality"/"less is more" format, BUT folks have to understand that these shows and movies are planned and started years before we ever see them, so there are most certainly plans and things that are in various stages of production (or at least were before all the strikes) that will have to follow their natural course before we get back to how things were. But even then, folks have to remember that things will NEVER be the way they were in Phases 1-3 because the MCU itself is so expansive now. They can't just focus on a handful of characters or even a single team without excluding a lot of other characters that various people have liked and want to see more of.

So maybe some folks here didn't like "She-Hulk" or "Ms. Marvel", etc., but enough people did that Marvel's not just going to shelve those characters. They'll find other ways to incorporate them in other projects, now that they've been introduced (which is evidenced in "The Marvels" for example). Either way, people are going to have to be patient with what is coming out in the near future, as it was already half-baked while Chapek was still running the show, and start looking at 2024+ as when we should expect to start to see things turn around. I, for one, am optimistic that we WILL see that return to "quality over quantity", but again, only time will tell.

@StSteven - Very well-stated, and I agree. Kevin had a full plate at three films a year, and that was before Disney+.

So, yes, I am optimistic about MCU's future (if the strike issues are resolved well enough).

@LSHF - Thanks. I know that I can be long-winded some times (often) but I try to follow this stuff as much as my time allows so I've gathered some definite ideas about what transpired during the "Chapek Era" of the MCU and it's not stuff that's publicized very well (for good reason I'm sure), so I try to get those thoughts/facts out there whenever I can. But, yeah, overall despite whatever the driving factors are/were, the only thing that will change the general perception are results. So we'll see what happens, but obviously I'm optimistic as well.

Only way to fix these shit ideas and tv show [frick] ups is for the next Avengers film to say in the intro that all of phase 4 & 5 movies happened in a multiverse that does not connect with earth 616. Then set the film right after Cap gives Sam his shield.
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 7/28/2023, 2:30 PM
@mastakilla39 - Then set the universe right by not killing off Tony Stark and keeping Steve Rogers young.
mastakilla39
mastakilla39 - 7/28/2023, 2:42 PM
@CorndogBurglar - Nah because that will be a reboot. We should still keep the universe going forward if we can. If anyone can just get their hands on some avengers and their villain's DNA then fuse with it to get everyone's powers then it destroys all stakes in any film.

Its the same dumb shit that happened in Star Wars with cloning...why not just make a clone of everyone? They've all bled before or probably have medical records somewhere.

ObserverIO - 7/28/2023, 3:29 PM
@mastakilla39 - Full reboot might be cleaner.

Lets say they do reboot after Secret Wars, which characters would you choose to soft reboot.
Keeping in mind that all the new characters that are being introduced right now will probably have their time to shine before the end of Secret Wars, I'm not sure there are any that I would actually carry over.

Maybe Iman Vellani as Ms. Marvel. But I think I'd go new blood all around.

I know a lot of people would say keep the Spider-Man cast, but if we're getting new younger versions of Iron Man and everyone, maybe hold off on Spider-Man until they can afford to buy the rights from Sony and then start fresh again.

We're probably gonna get a college age Spidey in Spider-Man 4 and then we'll have an adult Spider-Man for Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars. So I think that'll be a good run. And Tom Holland is only getting more expensive and more reluctant to do it.

We'll have probably seen a live action Miles Morales at that point too.

If they let things progress enough all the threads should probably be tied up by the end of this Saga. All the more reason to start anew, imo.

FireandBlood - 7/28/2023, 2:38 PM
@ClintThaHamster - Yeah it was. Let’s look at the rest of the slate; Loki S2, Echo, Agatha, Iron Heart, The Marvels Cap 4, Thunderbolts and Daredevil. How many of them do you think is really going to get as good of a reception as Guardians?

Point is, 2/3 projects of Phase 5 already Marvel’s biggest stinkers, and rest of the phase doesn’t look remotely promising.

@PlusUltra - Loki, Cap 4, and Daredevil are the only ones I care about.

I would love to say Thunderbolts also because I really liked the dude playing Cap/US Agent in Falcon and Winter Soldier. And I love the older Thunderbolts comics before they just became a team of anti-heroes instead of villains. Unfortunately that team they revealed for this movie does absolutely nothing for me.

@bobevanz - Last MCU movie I paid to watch in theaters was Endgame.

Although I do regret that I didn't watch GotG vol 3 in theaters. Rest was ok to watch on TV though.

@bobevanz - I don't actually think the MCU sucks now, but after Eternals, you better believe I will not be rushing out to see every MCU movie in the theater. The fact that people think that Quantumania is worse that that steaming pile is CRAZY to me.

My beef with the harvest is how the heck could you make one vial with everyone’s dna separated? How do they know each persons dna? And how do they already have a data base with everyone’s dna decoded and no ones used that to make synthesized dna of each character??
Would’ve been more logical to have a suitcase full of different vials of dna.
