SECRET INVASION: Kevin Feige Suggests [SPOILER] Has Been A Skrull Longer Than Anyone Has Suspected

Secret Invasion has revealed yet another Skrull imposter in the MCU, and both the actor and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige have strongly hinted that they've not actually been themselves for a while.

Today's episode of Secret Invasion confirms what we've long suspected (well, for the past few weeks, anyway). Colonel James "Rhodey" Rhodes is a Skrull, though how long War Machine hasn't been himself is up for debate.

Nick Fury figured it out after the Avenger called him "Nick," but as President Ritson's advisor, Rhodey remains a major threat even after the former S.H.I.E.L.D. Director managed to rush POTUS to safety. Now, Don Cheadle has opened up on the big reveal in an interview with Marvel.com

"It's fun to fold that in and know that that’s what's happening underneath all of these Rhodey scenes," the actor says. "Rhodes is not who he appears to be."

"It becomes sort of a cat-and-mouse game between the two of them, about what he has on Fury and if he's going to release information about Fury," Cheadle continues. "Fury has to play it the right way while still trying to protect and save the planet."

The question now is, how long has Rhodey been a Skrull? Looking back at his scene in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, his words definitely take on a slightly different meaning now, and based on comments from Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, it's possible we've been watching an imposter in action long before that.

"It was very early days when we pitched this concept to Don," the executive says, "and he very much was into it and into being able to play with different sides of Rhodey that we haven't seen before."

Feige would add that we'll come to "understand exactly how long he’s been a Skrull," noting: "We like the idea of fans going back and watching some of the other appearances of Rhodey and realizing that that wasn't him."

Could Avengers: Endgame's Rhodey have also been this Skrull imposter?

A lot of fans were surprised by his suggestion The Avengers travel back in time to kill Baby Thanos...

Knowing that he's a skrull this whole time has almost made me forget that it was actually Don Cheadle there as part of making this show. It's so cool that he's a part of this series.

P.S. I could see Rhodey having some PTSD about this whole incident in the Armor Wars movie down the line, similar to Stark in Iron Man 3.

I think he was a skrull in Endgame too.

Just the way he was acting, especially bringing more comedy to the movie was kindve unexpected

@IronGenesis - that actually would make the most sense In a super meta way. They should really go with that.

Be hilarious with it and say He's been a Skrull since just before Iron Man 2.

He couldnt have been one before Civil War. Going by the latest episode, Skrulls slowly revert back to their original form when severely injured. That would've happened when he was paralyzed.

Of course he wants people to go back and watch the other shows, they need the viewing numbers cause right now their failing.

He's playing us so that more people watch the past movies and raise those streaming numbers.
It's clear Rhodey has only been a skrull since after his FATWS appearance.

Secret Invasion is a flop in terms of viewing numbers.

After civil war is when he probably became one

Ok, for this to make any sense, that would mean nick was able to figure out Rhodey was a skrull from one word when rhodey's best friend and all his avengers friends couldn't tell after at least 5 years and however long it took to make the time machine.

@Origame - I wouldn’t even say that’s the issue cause the skrulls have the memory thing and avengers besides carol don’t seem to even know they exist - it’s more so that 100% positive he’s called him fury in other projects so unless the Skrull had a brain fart and said Nick accidentally it doesn’t work

@ShimmyShimmyYA - but they do know about shape shifters and mind control.

Also, having someone being not quite themselves would make anyone suspicious. Are you saying if your best friend was doing or saying things they don't normally do, you wouldn't at least be suspicious?
ShimmyShimmyYA
ShimmyShimmyYA - 7/12/2023, 5:42 PM
@Origame - the skrulls copy mostly 1 to 1 if they have the memory implant fury suspicious ass would notice but no one else I don’t think would

@ShimmyShimmyYA - yet in one business conversation he had a slip up. We're talking about multiple years with his closest friends, and including Natasha and Steve who are also very paranoid.

@Origame - i really hope they don’t make him a skrull pre endgame

Will the people being impersonated be freed like in the comics, years after being captured?

Rhodey was replaced sometime after Infinity War but before Endgame. If you pay attention, Skrull Rhodey doesn't use the apparatus to help his spine anymore. Where as Rhodey in Infinity War still had the apparatus to assist him with walking. So the Rhodey we see in Endgame when he returns to the compound is a Skrull at that point.

Terrence Howard is the real rhodey, the character became a skrull/imposter the day Don Cheadles took on the role

Hopefully they got him after Tony died because if not 😬😞 Oh damn, imagine if they jumped him and switched places during the final Endgame fight. When it was too much chaos for anybody to notice.
