SECRET INVASION Star Dermot Mulroney On Being Replaced As MCU's President By Harrison Ford (Exclusive)

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has confirmed General Ross will be President in Captain America: Brave New World, but how does Secret Invasion's Dermot Mulroney feel about losing out to Harrison Ford?

Dermot Mulroney plays President Ritson in Secret Invasion, but the actor's time as the world's most powerful politician may well be limited...and not just because he's become the target of Earth's invading Skrulls!

Earlier this year, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige confirmed that Harrison Ford's General "Thunderbolt" Ross will be the U.S. President in Captain America: Brave New World, meaning Ritson's time in the Oval Office is about to end one way or the other.

Nick Fury has just rescued him, of course, but we couldn't help asking Mulroney for his thoughts on passing the Presidential baton to Ford next year.

"[Laughs] That’s bad news!" he told us last week. "No, I don’t know what anybody’s intent is, but I couldn’t ask for more. I’m so fulfilled and thrilled to have been in Secret Invasion. I have no concept of whether Ritson survives or lives on or continues in the storyline."

"It would be a thrill, of course, but if I have to lose the next election to one American, and it has to be Harrison Ford, I guess that’s fair enough. That’s okay [Laughs]. There’s nothing about two terms…I can be his Vice President! I can have two terms of Vice President under President Harrison Ford."

It's certainly possible we haven't seen the last of Ritson, and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever established that he had some pretty sinister ideas about destabilising Wakanda. While we don't believe he's a Skrull, that's also not a possibility we can entirely dismiss heading into Secret Invasion's final two episodes.

You can watch our full interview with Mulroney in the player below.

Secret Invasion is now streaming on Disney+. The fifth episode premieres this Wednesday, July 19!

Not a fan of fictional world leaders. Do they ever slip up and mention Obama or Trump or that other dude (Biden)?
ObserverIO

Makes me wonder if the MCU has ever had a black president.

SATW42 - 7/17/2023, 3:39 PM
@ObserverIO - I guess it depends on what you consider canon. Obama had a photographic cameo in Far From Home in a deleted scene and was name dropped in the Runaways and Luke Cage.

Tony Stark also has a poster in Iron Man 2 done in the same style as Obamas "Hope" poster, so it's conceivable he was an MCU President.

They split from history after Obama going to President Ellis and now Ritson.

SATW42 - 7/17/2023, 3:47 PM
@ObserverIO - they've also used real world president's from the past before Obama in random images and montages (like Black Widow and Age of Ultron). So basically, they lived in our world, until they didn't.

Before anyone gets mad saying it's political because of Trump, If Obama existed in the MCU and Ellis was president after him, than Obama lost the 2012 election because Ellis is president in 2013 in Iron Man 3. Also they have to go the fictional route now because we as viewers are watching 5 years in the future. Marvel if they wanted to have real presidents would have to start predicting the future.

SATW42 - 7/17/2023, 3:56 PM
@ObserverIO - But they also mention Trump at the end of Luke Cage and imply he won the presidency. That obviously doesn't jive with the MCU timeline, and is actually a decent argument against the netflix shows being canon.
ObserverIO

@SATW42 - Forgot we were still in the future for a second. So Biden could have been president in the blip.

It's actually really impressive that they've never slipped up in the main MCU canon, under Feige. I guess he didn't have control over any of those Netflix shows or he would've probably amended those mentions of Trump and possibly even Obama.

@ObserverIO - yeahup, the blip was 2023 lol
ObserverIO
ObserverIO - 7/17/2023, 5:14 PM
@SATW42 - That's a good point, I'm thinking Ritson's incoming, but he's actually the outgoing, if General Ross is gonna replace him. So no Biden.

I haven't realized until recently, how revered Harrison Ford was.🤣 I'm surprised Feige didn't try to work him into the first Avengers movie.

@dragon316 - To be fair, a lot of them say that the show sucks based off of the trailer. There are some that even say a show sucks based on casting rumors.

LMFAO…. These cringy interviews 😂. I don’t know which was worse: Josh putting on his best outfit for a professional video (he chose a basic black hoody…)/slicking over his hair/putting on a Sh*t-eating grin/bugging his little beady eyes out every time he does one of these things, OR him insulting Charlayne Woodard by asking her about de-aging technology.

This dude is the definition of horrible 🤣
