The Shannara Chronicles roughly follows the storylines set out in The Elfstones of Shannara, set about 300 years after the War of the Races—which ceased magic and confined the demons in the Forbidding, locked by an ancient tree called the Ellcrys. The series chronicles the journey of Wil, Amberle and Eretria, who must fight, with the guidance of the last druid, Allanon, to protect the Ellcrys from dying and unleashing all the demons to the Four Lands.

Starring: Austin Butler as Wil Ohmsford, Poppy Drayton as Amberle Elessedil, Manu Bennett as Allanon, Ivana Baquero as Eretria, Emilia Burns as Commander Tilton and Aaron Jakubenko as Ander Elessedil.

The Shannara Chronicles airs tonight 10/9c, now on Spike TV.

The Shannara Chronicles is published by Terry Brooks books and graphic novel, Dark Wraith of Shannara.

@Hawknaba - depends on your tastes. It's not accurate to the books, but it's a decent generic fantasy series.

@Omegacron - Never read the books, is it comparable to anything?

@Hawknaba - The production quality & overall show is comparable to "Legend of the Seeker" if you've seen that one. The overall plot of the books is kind of a post-apocalyptic fantasy mashup. A few thousand years after humanity blew itself up in WWIII, the remaining humans branched off into sub-species, turning into things very similar to orcs and/or dwarves along with the main branch of humanity. No longer seeing humanity as a threat, Elves came out of hiding and re-introduced magic into the world. So by the time of the books, you have a weird blend of magic and technology in a pseudo-medieval world.
