ALTERED CARBON Renewed For Season 2; CAPTAIN AMERICA Star Anthony Mackie Named New Lead Star

We knew that Suicide Squad star Joel Kinnaman likely wouldn't return for season two of Netflix's Altered Carbon but the show has today gained a new lead in Avengers: Infinity War star Anthony Mackie...

The chances of Anthony Mackie getting a standalone Falcon movie may seem slim as of right now but the actor has landed another leading role as the star of Netflix's sci-fi series Altered Carbon. He's taking over from Joel Kinnaman as Takeshi Kovacs, a character we always knew would have a new face in season two given the nature of the series and the way things ended when season one wrapped up.

It's also been confirmed that writer Alison Schapker (The Flash, Fringe) has joined the series as co-showrunner alongside Laeta Kalogridis. No return date or episode count have been revealed yet.

Kinnaman (Suicide Squad) announced shortly after the show debuted in February that he wouldn't be returning as he's taking on a lead role in Amazon Prime's planned Hanna reboot. It's hard to fault Netflix for choosing Mackie as his replacement, though, and it's going to be a lot of fun seeing what he brings to the role. What do you guys think? Really enjoyed the first season, was slow and hard to follow a little at first but really picked up by then end. Losing Joel Kinnaman is a shame, but Anthony Mackie certainly isn’t a step down

Enjoyed Season one and have to say it was a good adaption of the book, glad they did it as a TV show instead of a movie.
I haven't read the next book in the Series but glad to see that they have kept the aspect of the books with him having a different body in each sequel.
All of my friends, family and colleagues loved the Show, and hope season two surpasses the first.

Shame we won't get to see Martha Higareda in the next Season though.

I'll add that season one was so well cast that I have full faith in Mackie's casting and look forward to more.
I remember being unsure about Joel Kinnaman's casting initially.

I still wanna see the footage of him going after Steve Weintraub.

It sounded really bad....

It'll be interesting to see if it follows the second book or does it's own thing, because if it follows the book we are in for a very different show than we had with season one.

@Prork -

I only read the first book. What generally happens in the second?
I do need a new book to read and am always looking for recommendations.

@Prork - With the way the show ended it sort of makes more sense for them to adapt the third book instead. They really didn't get into all of the Martian stuff. How the humans are actually piggy backing off of the technology that Martians created (stacks/casting is all Martian tech). All of the worlds are Martian colonized worlds and how we don't what happened to the race of Martians. Did they die out? Exterminated? Did they just level up? What happened to them. Without laying any of that groundwork in the first series it would be hard to adapt book two.
