AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER Live-Action Series From Original Creators In The Works At Netflix

M. Night Shyamalan's movie is widely considered to be one of the worst adaptations in history, but popular animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender will get another shot at live-action glory on Netflix.

Good news for the legions of Avatar: The Last Airbender fans, as the mega-popular animated fantasy series is getting a live-action adaptation on Netflix.

Glass director M. Night Shyamalan infamously attempted a live-action feature back in 2010 which was universally panned by fans and critics, but with the beloved Nickelodeon show's original creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko on board to oversee this "re-imagining," it has a much better chance of success. At least, we hope so!

Check out a joint statement from DiMartino and Konietzko below.

“We’re thrilled for the opportunity to helm this live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender. We can’t wait to realize Aang’s world as cinematically as we always imagined it to be, and with a culturally appropriate, non-whitewashed cast.

It’s a once-in-a-lifetime chance to build upon everyone’s great work on the original animated series and go even deeper into the characters, story, action, and world-building. Netflix is wholly dedicated to manifesting our vision for this retelling, and we’re incredibly grateful to be partnering with them.”

No premiere date for Avatar: The Last Airbender just yet, but production is expected to commence at some point next year.

Hope they can recapture the original magic of the show. I personally felt that their more recent show, Legend of Korra, was unwatchable in comparison.

@NinnesMBC - Would proffer a 3rd animated series followwing a new avatar, instead of retelling Aang's story, but its something and it will be cool to see these characters brought to life by people who know what they are doing. Hopefully one day we get a 3rd series, until then at least we have Voltron and Dragon Prince

Hell yeah. Can't see them going for another movie but a netflix series could be what works when it comes to telling the story in live action form.

They haven’t even started production yet and it’s already better than the Shyamalan movie.

Anything is better than the M. Night Shyamalan version! I like Shyamalan and his films (for the most part), but his Avatar film was hot garbage.

Props to Netflix on this one. I'll definitely check this out.

The Last Airbender was possibly the worst film I've ever seen, but if this series can capture the magic of the animated series then we could be in for something special here!

Must we still bleed in our minds over this

before Hollywood learns to let go of their mistakes?
