Guardians of the Galaxy actor Kurt Russell is going from the Marvel Cinematic Universe to the North Pole. The '80s action star is probably best known around these parts as Star-Lord's intergalactic father. Well, come November, he'll be known by many as Father Christmas.
This holiday season, Russell will join the likes of Tim Allen, Paul Giamatti, Bryan Cranston and dozens of others who have donned the iconic red suit and hat, as he becomes jolly Old Saint Nick in Netflix's upcoming movie
The Christmas Chronicles. The holiday adventure sees Santa's once-a-year job get derailed when brother and sister, Kate and Teddy Pierce, attempt to catch him in the act on Christmas Eve. When the two siblings accidentally cause his sleigh to crash, they must work together with Santa and his Elves to save Christmas.
The Christmas Chronicles, a holiday adventure from producer Chris Columbus (“Home Alone”, "Harry Potter") and director Clay Kaytis ("The Angry Birds Movie"), tells the story of sister and brother, Kate (Darby Camp) and Teddy Pierce (Judah Lewis), whose Christmas Eve plan to catch Santa Claus (Kurt Russell) on camera turns into an unexpected journey that most kids could only dream about. After staking out Santa’s arrival, they sneak into his sleigh, cause it to crash and nearly derail Christmas. As their wild night unfolds, Kate and Teddy work together with Santa - as you've never seen him before - and his loyal Elves to save Christmas before it's too late.
Kurt Russell certainly looks the part of Old Saint Nick, but
The Christmas Chronicles is teetering on the cheesy borderline. That's not necessarily a bad thing, though. Oddly enough, Netflix has
found some strange success with cornball holiday movies, like A Christmas Prince. When it comes to cheesy, heartwarming holiday films that make you feel all fuzzy inside, it seems Netflix is starting to give Hallmark Channel a run for its money.
The Christmas Chronicles will debut on Netflix on November 22.
