Guardians of the Galaxy actor Kurt Russell is going from the Marvel Cinematic Universe to the North Pole. The '80s action star is probably best known around these parts as Star-Lord's intergalactic father. Well, come November, he'll be known by many as Father Christmas.

This holiday season, Russell will join the likes of Tim Allen, Paul Giamatti, Bryan Cranston and dozens of others who have donned the iconic red suit and hat, as he becomes jolly Old Saint Nick in Netflix's upcoming movie The Christmas Chronicles. The holiday adventure sees Santa's once-a-year job get derailed when brother and sister, Kate and Teddy Pierce, attempt to catch him in the act on Christmas Eve. When the two siblings accidentally cause his sleigh to crash, they must work together with Santa and his Elves to save Christmas.

The Christmas Chronicles, a holiday adventure from producer Chris Columbus (“Home Alone”, "Harry Potter") and director Clay Kaytis ("The Angry Birds Movie"), tells the story of sister and brother, Kate (Darby Camp) and Teddy Pierce (Judah Lewis), whose Christmas Eve plan to catch Santa Claus (Kurt Russell) on camera turns into an unexpected journey that most kids could only dream about. After staking out Santa’s arrival, they sneak into his sleigh, cause it to crash and nearly derail Christmas. As their wild night unfolds, Kate and Teddy work together with Santa - as you've never seen him before - and his loyal Elves to save Christmas before it's too late.

Kurt Russell certainly looks the part of Old Saint Nick, but The Christmas Chronicles is teetering on the cheesy borderline. That's not necessarily a bad thing, though. Oddly enough, Netflix has found some strange success with cornball holiday movies, like A Christmas Prince. When it comes to cheesy, heartwarming holiday films that make you feel all fuzzy inside, it seems Netflix is starting to give Hallmark Channel a run for its money.

The Christmas Chronicles will debut on Netflix on November 22.

Why has it taken this long for someone to think of Kurt Russell as Santa Claus?!

@Brave - Well, he hasn't really looked like Santa until recently.

@Brave - There was a shot of him flying his ship in Guardians Vol. 2 (when Rocket sees him during the big space chase towards the beginning) that made me think of Santa in his sleigh.

The good kids are getting coal, and then used as batteries to power the devices to conquer Mars.

I’m always down to see a new take on Santa. One of my favorites is the one from Family Guy with the inbred elfs and murderous reindeers. This one lost me at the flossing elves...

I love Christmas movies. Especially current dumb ones like Daddy’s Home 2 and Office Christmas Party. They’re terrible but I still enjoy them. Still want the Santa Clause to finish out with another film

@FleischerSupes - Off topic but if people would have remembered this scene they would have understood why Starlord reacted the way he did after finding out Thanos killed Gamora.

Dude went full wild west on his pops after hearing that so why would he not react any less for Gamora?

@smgmayhem - I totally don't blame him for that, dude has been through some stuff. Plus, if Starlord had somehow gone full berserk Celestial and squashed Thanos single handed, nobody would be complaining.

I love a good fun Christmas film during the holidays. My favorites growing up were

The Santa Clause
Jingle All the Way
Miracle On 34th Street
A Christmas Story
All the classic stop motion animation films

And recent ones I have liked are:

Elf
Arthur Christmas
Rise of the Guardians
the Prep & Landing short animations
Christmas With the Kranks

@smgmayhem - I agree with your list completely. I really like Elf and Rise of the Guardians is a movie I wish would be made in live action.

@DarkArrow19 - Yeah it was the first physical blu-ray I bought when I got my first 60 inch 1080 HD tv (back when smart tvs were super expensive) and my wife and I were just in awe of the colors and everything in the film. We always watch it multiple times when Christmas comes around. Hugh Jackman as the Easter bunny is hilarious also.
