NETFLIX's upcoming re-imagining of the classic 1960's series Lost in Space is set to offer a more grounded, serious and modern take on the Robinson family's plight and the newly released title sequence certainly seems to match that.

Set to series composer Christopher Lennertz's score, the sequence offers a somewhat Americana view of a nuclear family's fascination with space flight over time, until we finally find ourselves in the future of 2046 seeing the iconic Jupiter 2; the vessel manned by the Robinson Family as they set out for their doomed voyage among the stars.

The cast for the upcoming series is led by Toby Stephens (Black Sails) and Molly Parker (House of Cards) as expedition leaders and parents of the Robinson household, along with Parker Posey as a gender-swapped Dr. Smith and Maxwell Jenkins (Sense8) as the youngest and brightest member of the Robinson family, Will.

A 10 episode series, Lost in Space will be released on 13th April 2018, only on Netflix.

Set 30 years in the future, colonization in space is now a reality, and the Robinson family is among those tested and selected to make a new life for themselves in a better world. But when the new colonists find themselves abruptly torn off course en route to their new home they must forge new alliances and work together to survive in a dangerous alien environment, light-years from their original destination. Stranded along with the Robinson's are two outsiders who find themselves thrown together by circumstance and a mutual knack for deception. The charismatic Dr. Smith is a master manipulator with an inscrutable end game. And the roguish, but charming Don West is a highly-skilled, blue collar contractor, who had no intention of joining the colony, let alone crash landing on a lost planet.

Reminds me of ENTERPRISE's opening sequence.

It looks an awful lot like the opening to Star Trek Enterprise, but I guess everything looks kinda like Trek because so many franchises took from it.

Pretty excited for this show.

Off topic: I saw Pacific Rim: Uprising and it was abysmal. The first was a solid send up to anime with some cool rock em' sock em' robot action and Guirremo Del Toro's artistic stamp. This one looks mostly like watching an unpolished video game cut scene with with all the direction of a toddler wacking a bunch of toys with a metal pot.

@MrDandy - really? I do like mechs and effects better in the original but the wooden acting/actors makes it unwatchable for me now. The new one had so much better characters, better kaiju, a better plot, more action, and was simply far more enjoyable imo. To each their own I guess.

@MrNegative - Yikes that's insanity to me. Yeah the lead in the original was a little wooden but Mako and Edris Elba's characters were great. In this I don't think I can call any of these people characters and they have no real relationship with one another.

Better Kaiju? The designs were generic, the kaiju are barely in the film, and the CGI on them is spotty compared to the photo real original. The action here looked like a weightless bad video game cut scene compared to the amazing production design Del Toro did on the original, which was the star of the whole show. I can't think of one action scene I REMEMBER in Uprising let alone liked and I saw it last night!

Better plot?? This one has to be a joke. Don't get me wrong the first film was simplistic to almost a fault, but this one is the complete opposite and is nonsensical. The Kaiju all along have been trying to get to MT. Fuji so their magic blood can set off a train reaction and teriform the earth? WTF? Then why were they showing up in the US in the original? Charlie Day's character somehow built a super advanced Jagger without anyone noticing, found a kaiju brain somehow, and best of all somehow hacks the drones to magically turn into jagger hybrids.

This movie is so stupid and fails on every level. Boyega is the only shining light in it.

Oh snap, this is terrific. Music isn't overly impressive in its melody but sounds good just in quality and I love them putting in the original theme, but the look of these titles is stellar 😎

The idea of let’s build a spaceship and explore (the old footage) doesn’t match the title “lost in space.”

@pintoman - Yeah that was what I thought too.

They kept John Williams' main melody. This pleases me.

I want to like this but from the gender-swapped Dr. Smith, the changes to characters and an alien-looking Robby the Robot, not all the money or dazzling CGI effects can make me interested in this.

A rather underwhelming opening. Then again, the trailer was pretty underwhelming too.
