It can sometimes seem that Disney, with its ownership of PIXAR, LucasFilm and recent bid for FOX, is an unstoppable goliath of a corporation. Just this week, however, the company met their David -  at least in terms of value - as Variety is now reporting that NETFLIX has surpassed Disney to become the most valuable media company in the world.

According to the report, when the market closed on Thursday the streaming platform was up 1.3% with a share worth $349.29 and a market cap of approximately $161 billion. The House of Mouse, meanwhile, fell by 0.7% leaving their market cap at $152 billion. Comcast, which recently sought to outbid Disney for the acquisition of 20th Century Fox, was passed by Netflix a few days prior.

NETFLIX has certainly proven to be the little service that could, changing the way we consume our televisual media, offering unique and quality programming and attracting high profile talent like Martin Scorsese and David Fincher. It seems only fitting that the company that has reformed our media landscape is also the most valuable.

What do you think? Has NETFLIX changed the way you view media? Have you given up on cinemas all together? Does the House of Mouse still hold a place in your heart and your pocket? Leave your thoughts below.

I thought it was more valuable than Disney's "Streaming Service" only! Not the whole company.

There is no way that Netflix is more powerful than Disney in the long run. At the end of the day, Disney has the most popular properties in entertainment. And many of Netflix's most popular shows and movies are from Disney such as the Marvel stuff.

And this is why the concerns of Disney becoming a monopoly are ridiculous. It’s 2018. Netflix, Amazon, Google, Facebook and Apple are making the old big six paradigm obsolete.
