Platige has officially announced that a TV adaptation of Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski’s The Witcher is headed to Netflix.

The story, which focuses on the adventures of Geralt of Rivia and his quest to become a powerful monster-hunter, has already been adapted as a feature and its small-screen spinoff known as The Hexer back in the early noughties, but neither was very well received. This time, however, Sapkowski seems very happy with how things are coming together and will serve as as a creative consultant on the series.

“I’m thrilled that Netflix will be doing an adaptation of my stories, staying true to the source material and the themes that I have spent over thirty years writing,” said the author in a press release.“I’m excited about our efforts together as well as the team assembled to shepherd these characters to life.”

Tomek Baginski, who directed the prelude videos for all three video games in The Witcher series, is expected to helm at least one episode of the show. No other details are available for the time being, but keep an eye on CBM for updates.

Netflix has been making some really good shows but for this one I'm skeptical.

I loved the witcher 3, definitely has been my favorite game for the ps4.

I just feel like this one is gonna require a huge budget for all the special effects and sets. I think a movie trilogy may have been a better suit for this.

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau for Geralt, too easy and perfect of a choice.

@Menks123 - I haven't played it, I've heard good things. I've really liked Mass Effect Andromeda so far and if it's anything like that, just without the game breaking ce-30whatever error, then I'm game.

Evil is evil, lesser, greater, middling - makes no difference. The degree is arbitrary, the definition blurred. If I'm to choose between one evil and another, I'd rather not choose at all. - Witcher 3 -

Great news!

@TheUnworthyThor - Ya the Witcher is based on these Polish fantasy novels from the early 90's. What is cool about it is the creatures and monsters in that series are Polish takes on them which is interesting.

I was reading that this is supposedly going to be based specifically on the books which are set before the games. Witcher 3 pretty clearly set it that Geralt's story was done. Be it he rides off into the sunset with either Yennifer or Triss, continues down the Witcher's path with Ciri, or dying filled with regret, grief, and revenge. His story was done.

I've been saying it for ages, as film adaptions for games keep failing, try doing one as a TV show, especially if they have a sprawling story.
Glad someone has done it, and I have faith in Netflix.

Some lazy casting, maybe Anson Mount.
