YELLOWJACKETS Creators On The Chilling Season 1 Finale & Shocking Exit - SPOILERS

The season finale of Showtime's Yellowjaclets aired over the weekend, and the show's creators have now addressed some lingering questions while commenting on that chilling character exit. Spoilers ahead.

If you haven't been following Showtime's Yellowjackets, we highly recommend adding it to your 2022 must-watch list. The series has been referred to as a mash-up of Lost and Lord of the Flies, and while those comparisons are valid, it's very much its own, compelling, grim, hilarious, messed-up thing.

Playing out in two timelines, the story focuses on a school soccer team (the Yellowjackets of the title) who are forced to eke out an existence on a remote island when their plane crashes in 1996. We also follow the four main survivors in the present as they struggle with the lengths they had to go to in order to survive over two decades earlier.

Oh, and there's some kind of dark supernatural force at play on the island... or is there?

If you haven't checked out Yellowjackets and are planning to, be warned of spoilers from this point on.

Jackie (Ella Purnell) isn't around in the present, which obviously suggested that she never made it off the island. Sure enough, the poor girl freezes to death after sleeping outside following an argument with Shauna (Sophie Nélisse). Jackie's demise wasn't completely unexpected, of course, but it's still a ballsy move to kill off one of your main characters - played by the most well-known actress among the younger group - in this fashion.

Creators Ashley Lyle, Jonathan Lisco and Bart Nickerson addressed Jackie's death and more during an interview with THR.

“We felt something inevitable to us about [Jackie’s] death and this form of her death; it was a north star,” Lyle says, confirming that Purnell will likely be back in some form for season 2. “Jackie is a character who looms large over everyone else’s lives.”

"Some of it has to cross-pollinate with the business dynamics behind the scenes," said Lisco in a separate interview with Variety. "But Ella loved the show, and loves the show. And I think may come back. Just because she’s dead, and she is dead — a lot of people don’t even trust that she’s dead — that doesn’t mean that she can’t appear, right?"

Several persistent fan-theories were also addressed, but they weren't giving anything away! What do you guys think is going on? Drop us a comment down below.

@BassMan - oh shit I must've missed it. I had almost forgotten Lottie’s dad rented the plane the girls took to nationals.

I honestly feel bad for Jackie. She never struck me as someone who was trying to control people in high school - it looks more apparent that most people on the soccer team were just jealous and held resentment towards her.

I will fault her for completely shutting down on the island and not helping with a goddamn thing but did she deserve the betrayal/treatment in the final two episodes? Nope. The vision Jackie has before she dies was so creepy that I just feel bad for her.

Honestly, [frick] Shauna.

@TheLobster - I don't think she deserved to die, but a lot of what was going on was totally within that teenage spite-ful/stubborn wheelhouse from everyone involved. Not mention most of the girls are already drinking the Lottie-cult Kool-Aid(providing the food, guidance and results).

Jackie was also too proud to apologize, or even smart enough to at least work with everyone else until they got rescued. She might not believe in Lottie, but she could at least play along and survive. At least make amends enough to sleep inside.

@BlackBeltJones - I love Yellowjackets but I did ask myself multiple times “so…. am I supposed to like Shauna at all? Cause she sucks in every single aspect..”

She’s a shitty wife, mom, friend, and human being lol

Granted all the survivors are [frick]ed up but you can find redeeming qualities in Tai, Misty, and especially Nat. Shauna is just trash.

@JoeInTheBox - yeah definitely agree about Jackie. Pride is a mother[frick]er and she should have went back in the moment she knew she couldn’t get a fire to start. Super sad.

Also, it’s funny how I was loving Lottie in the beginning and now I’m starting to see her as the ultimate enemy for the show.

@TheLobster - she’s a shitty human being all around. I feel like you should hate her. My roommates hate her, my parents too lol

@TheLobster - My gf and I were theorizing about all the characters after the finale. They're all pretty complicated all equal parts unlikable and likable at the same time. It all comes down to who you can relate to at any given situation. Originally I found myself like teen Nat the most, and adult Nat the least, but like Taissa says, Nat has no one. I can see why she can't get over Travis, even though they apparently were toxic for each other. She's a victim of her addiction.

Taissa, we don't even know exactly what her deal is. I am potentially the most afraid of her as result, but she's also comes across as the most stable. Just don't want her around any dogs...

Misty is super fun. I think everyone needs a friend like her. I might not want to date her...because she's a sociopathic mastermind, but I definitely want her on my side.

Shauna without a doubt I don't like...but I kind of understand the most, unfortunately. I feel like she strives for normality, but she has no idea what that is and is afraid to give into her evil tendencies. She has the potential to swing either way into truly good and truly evil. Depends on what she actually wants. I think she wants a normal life with a family, but I also think it goes against her nature.

It's a bit too early for me to deep-theorize into Lottie...but I'm leaning towards her family being involved. Perheps even behind everything.

Love this show, but I still think the most insane part of the show is that we're supposed to buy that Misty is considered "unattractive".

Everyone should have a friend like Misty...
