THE BOOK OF BOBA FETT Star Temuera Morrison Isn't Sure About STAR WARS Return Amid Disney "Cutbacks"

Temuera Morrison has weighed in on his future as Star Wars' most iconic bounty hunter, revealing that Disney's recent streaming cutbacks could mean his long-awaited return as Boba Fett is now off the table.

The Book of Boba Fett received a mixed but mostly positive response, though there's been no word on plans for a second season. The finale certainly set the stage for the former bounty hunter's story to continue, but actor Temuera Morrison possibly shed some light on why we haven't heard anything about that during a recent convention appearance in Melbourne (via SFFGazette.com).

Asked about his involvement with Star Wars moving forward, the actor - who originally played Jango Fett in Attack of the Clones before lending his likeness to that character's clones and son - suggested Lucasfilm is in the midst of curbing spending on Disney+.

"I think there [are] a few changes going on. We also come under the big umbrella known as 'Disney' now too," Morrison explained. "So it’s one of the last few conversations we had in L.A . The conversation started like, 'Oh look, we’re having a few changes. We’re having a few cutbacks.'"

He didn't really elaborate beyond that but seemed to hint The Book of Boba Fett season 2 could be off the table for one simple reason: money.

"When you hear that at the other end of the line," Morrison added, "it’s no good trying to negotiate any more money that’s for sure. So we’ll see what happens."

Many fans were disappointed and surprised by Fett not having a role to play in The Mandalorian season 3, and that too may be down to the "cutbacks" mentioned by the actor.

If a second season of The Book of Boba Fett is indeed off the table, then we'll surely see Tatooine's new Daimyo in Dave Filoni's planned crossover movie, right? "It sounds a bit like Avengers if you ask me," the actor said of those plans. "I guess with [Jon Favreau’s] experience making Iron Man, subsequently the Marvel Universe exploded...it would be the logical thing for them to do."

Morrison certainly doesn't sound like he has a huge amount of love for the Star Wars franchise right now, though we're sure that will change under the right circumstances. Still, this definitely isn't the Boba Fett update we were hoping for!

The actor also expressed his disappointment with Din Djarin's role in The Book of Boba Fett. Read more about that by clicking here.

It's amazing how bad Disney has handled this IP since they got it back in 2012. There was so much potential for great new content back then, but it seems like for every step they took forward, they took 3 back in different areas.

@Th3Batman - I like Bob Iger, but weaseling Lucas into selling and then throwing out three written scripts for the sequel trilogy really makes my blood boil

@Th3Batman - More like 10. They are sitting on a goldmine with a NEW Battlefront game! Nothing!

@Th3Batman - At the time of the acquisition I was a member in the 501's Legion costuming group, as an officer we all had to attend a phone call from Kennedy plus the "handlers" who were assigned as the liaisons between the legion and Disney. They changed pretty much every aspect of what we could and couldn't do, that included sending them any facebook info (especially if you had the 501st in your profile). They went from fun 501'st to beware the mouse 501'st. So much politics involved just to do charity events, it was a pain in the ass. They were all about total control.

For the most part his show was bad. Nobody wanted all that flashback shit. People expected to see the badass Boba Fett they saw in The Mandalorian. Finally give him his own movie and more crossovers with Din. I'll be happy with that

@TheShape9859 - The flashbacks were the best part. They dropped the ball with all the present day shit because they didn’t know wtf to do with Boba, so they turned it into another season of Grogu.

@PlusUltra - the flashbacks were bad. Just take what they had in The Mandalorian and do more of that. If they had to do flashbacks show him escape the Sarlac Pit and go on a quest to hunt down Cobb Vanth to get his armor back. It's not that damn hard.

The guy has a heart if gold, and just like most of the actors associated with Disney Star Wars era characters, I just feel sorry for them. Despite his best intentions for the character, this isn't Boba Fett. So I'd rather not see anymore Boba Fett if THIS is the Boba Fett we get.

I'm tired of Disney creative deciding the best way to move the franchise forward is to destroy or disrespect or fundamentally alter what came before, taking from the foundation of Star Wars rather than building upon it. Their decisions to add to the lore, they prefer to alter the lore because they think it's subversive and edgy or maybe even agenda motivated inserts, rather than authentically motivated decisions made to produce the best Star Wars possible.

They did not cast Lizzo because she was the best actress for the role. Let's be honest, we see why the do certain things. It was stunt casting to appeal to a demographic.

It's the same poor decisions that lead Boba Fett to become a helpless pacifist who has to get saved by his girl boss sidekick every episode. Who is this even for?

@TheVandalore - Simple. The decisions made with star wars were and continue to be motivated by politics, not profits. It makes no sense financially to make another Ray movie, but it makes all the political sense in the world.

Wouldn't mind it if Boba Fett doesn't get a second season. His story feels pretty much told right now anyway. Am currently more interest to see Cobb, who I think will be in the movie with Boba as well

This show proved one thing once and for all: Boba Fett's nothing more than a cool suit.

@CoHost - yes. But also, most characters start out basic, and with time get more and more interesting.

Boba was proped up by Star Wars fans from day 1. We always wanted more than he was intended to be, and his reputation was basically birth from the fandoms interest. That in itself is pretty cool.

But even still, creators spend their whole lives trying to make something that resonates with the masses, and here we have the golden ticket in the form if a blank slate bad ass character like Boba Fett, and all Disney had to do was not [frick] it up.... and they [frick]ed it up.

Boba Fett had the potential to be a fantastic show but Lucasfilm dropped the ball.
The flashbacks of him being captive of and then gaining the respect and training with the Sandpeople were great. It had a Native American flair and it is colored the culture of the Tusken Raiders. It also helped give Boba Fett that more feral fighting style that they showed in The Tragedy episode of The Mabdalorian.

The mistake they made was with the rest of the story.
The Book of Boba Fett should have been him wanting to go legit and rule better than Jabba only to realize that the enemies and other families just won’t let that happen.
“Every time I try to get out they pull me back in”

As a result he has to become the fierce Boba Fett, but like Jules in Pulp Fiction he’s trying really hard to be the shepherd.

And when the other families team up to stop him and steal his power and terrain, which threatens the people under his jurisdiction….the sand people show up as his cavalry.

That’s what it felt like they were going to do, but Kennedy clear jumped in and took it off the rails.

There was so much potential but they again squandered that opportunity.

If they didn't make crap shows. Then cutbacks may not be a problem.

Disney Plus is filled with crap shows.

Do you think Disney KNOWS exactly what the fans want and actively try and give us the opposite?

@Mother[frick]erJon - it sure seems like it.

2012: "We can't wait for a sequel trilogy starring the old cast in significant, and obviously respectful, roles"
Disney: "You'll get original character all apart from each other and will see each die per movie, they'll all be pedestreals for the new characters to stand upon"

2014: "Hey, that Rogue One was pretty cool with all it's loyal throwbacks to classic Star Wars, more of that please"
Disney: RIAN JOHNSON IS GOD AND WILL CREATE THE UNIVERSE IN HIS IMAGE

2017: "So, Last Jedi was pretty bad and messed with lore"
Disney: IT IS WRITTEN IN THE BOOK OF RIAN! HE WILL BE OUR PROPHET!

2018: "The public has soured on TLJ, maybe go back to the drawing board and take a bit longer to fix the issues for Episode 9"
Disney: JJ will return to fix the what Rian has done to his ideas for Episode 8-9.
2018: Why didn't you have him direct all three movies at first?
Disney: SILENCE! NO MORE SPIN-OFFS FOR YOU!
2018: Even the Obi-Wan film everyone actually wanted?
Disney: ESPECIALLY THAT! SCREW MCGREGOR

Disney: Favreau! We need a virtual production stage to produce Star Wars at a quicker pace! You did a tech-demo with 'The Lion King', do the same for this!
Favreau: Sure.
Disney: We'll try to cancel it multiple times during production and cut your budget midway, no one wants your stupid Mandalorian anyways.

Disney 2020: So, Mandalorian is the best piece of Star Wars media we ever made. So that's definitely because WE made it.

*Disney = Kennedy, I know Disney is mostly hands off
