Last January we reported that, because Andy Whitfield had to leave the titular role on the Starz series Spartacus due to his on-going battle with Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, Liam McIntyre had taken over as the new gladiator-turned-rebel, Spartacus.

Now EW.com has a few grizzled photos of the new actor from Season 2, titled Spartacus: Vengeance, due to premiere early 2012.

I just got my Entertainment Weekly magazine today and they have a pic of him fighting Roman soldiers. He looks great! Lucy Lawless said she approved of his acting. He buffed up a lot, I remember seeing pics of him when he was cast and he was really skinny! I'm excited for this. January can't come fast enough!!

also andy had a bit to do with the casting for this guy so i trust andy's judgement. this guy will do great, but i wish andy good health and a fast recovery so he can come back and kick ass!

The first season and the small prequel series was fantastic...can't wait for the second season.

Whitfield is NOT returning, and he even said that himself. IT's sad, but true. If anything, what they might end up doing is keeping him as a producer.

haha i said i wished it all for him. there goes my dreams! lol thanks for telling me though Aiiwolf. if gannicus is teaming up with crixus and spartacus in this, it will be glorious!!!
