BEAUTY AND THE BEAST: Kristin Kreuk and Jay Ryan Video Interview

The reboot of the '80s version of Beauty and the Beast debuts in October on the CW, with Smallville star Kristin Kreuk and executive producers Brian Peterson and Kelly Souders attached.

Moving pretty far away from her Smallville role of Lana Lang, Kreuk portrays homicide detective Catherine Chandler who comes into contact with Jay Ryan's Vincent Koslow, the "beast" (more accurately an army experiment gone awry). Unbeknownst to Catherine, Vincent had rescued her nine years earlier on the night her mother was killed and now the two of them are exploring their connection with each other, while providing mutual assistance in solving crimes in the show's more procedural approach than the original had.

The show from the '80s was decidedly more fantasy-oriented in nature, with Ron Perlman's Vincent more of a noble lion-man, who lives among a society situated in a series of tunnels beneath the streets of New York. Linda Hamilton, of course, played that show's Beauty.

In the following video interview - which includes the participation of CBM's Ed Gross - Kristin Kreuk and Jay Ryan discuss the show and their roles.

If your going to call it beauty and the beast make sure it's [frick]ing beauty and the beast. Don't try to use the title to grab an audience. The cartoon will forever reign supreme

The thing that I'm hoping for is that as the show goes on, they'll find an opportunity to introduce more fantastical elements to the series. It really is what made the original so special. Otherwise, why call this a reboot rather than just give it the generic name Beauty and the Beast?

Alan Menken was attached to the live-action film adaptation of the broadway musical adaptation of Disney's Beauty and the Beast for a while but last year he said the project had been canned. :(

Himura $10 you are Asian, so your comment is biased to begin with. The fact shes only gotten by on her "looks" just goes to show how the way shit works in Tv Land. you want to know what a real beauty is . Audrie Hepburn, Olivia Wilde, Gina Gershon, Kate Beckinsale,Gabrielle Union,Angelina Jolie,Rosario Dawson,Jessica Biel,Charlize Theron,Gina Carano, Gwyneth Paltrow ,Denise Vasi

She might do alright in the role, I don't know.

But from what I saw of a music video on the website talking about this show, it looks like it has the potential to be more like Smallville, rrather than a throwback to the old TV show, which was pretty good!

And maybe they decided not to have the guy playing beast in makeup because it was cheaper?.....he seems to only have a scar in most scenes, and when he's fighting he has glowing scary eyes and looks a little bit like something non-human.

Definately had a smallville feel to it. I'm not saying that is bad, but it has already been done before. I've already seen her hugged up with a guy taller than her and getting saved every other episode.

They could have recreated the magic of the 80's TV show. But they changed everything and have come up with nothing.

Didn't really care about her character lana in smallville. She wasn't touching enough and her acting was sorta bland and dull plus shes got a really skinny ass...I don't like skinny asses...

she is sooooo sexy but she is soooo not a good actress... and this show looks like pure toilet waste. I say the early preview when it came out. [frick] this thing. the emo ass beast who looks just fine. he is all sad because he's angry, and he is angry because he is sad.
