SUPERNATURAL Set To Crossover With The World Of SCOOBY-DOO Next Season

After the shocking events of last night's season finale of Supernatural, we've received new details on what's in store for us next year, and it's almost definitely not something you were expecting!

Sam and Dean Winchester have been through a lot over the years and next season, they'll engage in quite possibly their most ambitious adventure yet as the unstoppable brothers will get animated to partner up with Scooby-Doo and the Mystery Inc. gang in an episode that already sounds like an all-time classic.

Both Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki were on-hand yesterday to make the awesome announcement at The CW's annual Upfront presentation and while they didn't divulge much, they did tease a "colorful" episode that will take place in the "fully animated world of Scooby-Doo." An episode number wasn't provided, but it should hopefully air in the top half of the upcoming season.

At the time of the announcement, it was a little unclear how this episode would factor into the upcoming season's storyline, but after last night's shocking two-part twelfth season finale, things have cleared up considerably. Continue on below to read CBM's full recap of the two-part season finale:

*SPOILERS AHEAD*

The two-parter kicked off with the Winchester brothers trapped in the bunker with Toni, attempting to make an escape, but proving to be unsuccessful until Dean was able to bring out his trusty grenade launcher. The rest of the episode twenty-two saw Sam take command and take down the British Men of Letters with the help of Jodi and several other skilled American hunters while Dean worked on deprogramming their mother. After making a subconscious connection with Mary, the elder Winchester was abruptly woken by Ketch, who killed Toni and put up a good fight before Mary, just in the nick of time, woke up and put a bullet in him.

The first hour ended on a happy note with the Winchester family finally reunited, but their happiness was short-lived when Sam brought news of Lucifer's return to Earth. The bad news got a lot worse a few moments later when they attempted to contact Rowena, but instead found the Devil himself, who informed them of the witch's untimely demise. With time running out, the three and the not-so-dead Crowley raced to find Cas & Kelly to lend them a hand in keeping the Nephilim away from his father, but they proved to be just a little too late as Kelly had already gone into labor.

In the midst of all this, Castiel discovered a bright tear in space and time, caused by the Nephilim in the womb, that allowed safe passage between Sam & Dean's world and
a world where the brothers were never born and Earth is the battleground for a never-ending war between Heaven and Hell. After a short encounter with an alternate Bobby Singer, the quartet of Sam, Dean, Cas, and Crowley devised a plan to trap Lucifer in the alternate reality world, but everything pretty much went to s**t from there as the Winchesters began to lose everyone they ever held dear.

First up was Crowley, who made the ultimate sacrifice to save his friends and the world from certain doom. After the Winchesters were seemingly in the clear, Castiel arrived to put an end to Lucifer's evil reign by killing him with an Angel Blade. His plan seemed to work too, for a moment, as he exited the breach in one piece, but then in an absolutely shocking twist, found himself at the receiving end of the same blade when Lucifer emerged unamused by their efforts to kill him. Mary then arrived and actually had some success using her Enochian Brass Knuckles, but in another devastating moment, found herself sucked into the breach as it began to close and at the end of the episode found herself trapped on the alternate Earth with the Devil.

Four deaths and a missing mom and the episode wasn't anywhere close to being over. The final minute or so saw Sam discover Kelly Kline's lifeless body and the Nephilim, who, in the final twist of the night, had already become a full grown boy... with yellow eyes.

*END SPOILERS*

Based on that information, it probably wouldn't be a stretch to assume that next season might feature more than a few reality-bending, alternate universe-jumping shenanigans as the brothers attempt to find and rescue their mother (and hopefully Cas & Crowley too). Also, with news of this crossover, could this open the door for a potential crossover with The CW's DC TV slate? Only time will tell

@SuperCat - That's actually the one thing the show doesn't lack. Most shows (The Flash) find it hard to come up with something new after a few season, but Supernatural has consistently done more creative things than most shows put together.

@KingPatel I think they have Misha still on as a series main cast for Season 13. I'm not sure Mark Sheppard was, though. Alexander Calvert, Anarky from Arrow, will be playing Jack, and Jodi, Donna, and the Wayward Daughters are supposed to play a huge role in the season.
