Well that was a bit gruesome. I don't know if I'd put my hand in front of a knife for one of my friends. I might step in front of a knife or gun, but I wouldn't put my hand there.

Kind of strange that after the trailer, that's all I can think about right now.

Can't wait to see this! For those asking, it's been out internationally. It's finally being released in the U.S. at the end of June. It's opening the LA Film Festival that month too. I will support love Chris and Octavia Spencer, movie looks good as well.

Mighty Fine and Impressive film!!
Great direction, Good engrossing storyline and plot, GREAT acting across the board. Definitely recommend this one.
*if there was one teeny-tiny critique of this film it'd be that (at times) some of the cinematography looks a little.........."contrived" and "fake".
However, (for me at least) such a "complaint" was/is excusable (..and by extension - perhaps even justifiable) given the precise storyline that the film is telling..
~ HIGH recommendation for this one.

Movie was good as hell! I followed it on CBM for a long time waiting for a US date and said "forget it!" downloaded a bootleg back in Feb and it was one of the more original films i seen in a while. Kind of a weird twist on sci-fi futuristic Noah's Ark.

Watched it. Didn't care for it.

The actors are top shelf in virtually every role. Set designs are visually interesting, and the CGI is passable.

However, the underlying message, and plot twist attached, was predictable. The characters, though, make ridiculous decisions at time and often spout over the top and campy dialogue. And the train... oh... my... god... the train is pretty silly. How it works, and how the train cars are laid out and in what order... it's far too convenient to the plot beats most of the time.

Yes, the action scenes are well constructed to make use of the claustrophobic nature of the train, but they felt forced... shoved into the story to break up the otherwise gloomy and predictable plot.

But, the theme of the film, and I assume the graphic novel, was a bit obtuse for me. I prefer the flogging of my humanity to be a bit more subtle... make me question what I might do in the same situation and if what I do is worth it. Evan's character is never really given a choice. Yes, he is literally offered a choice, but his character is so stone faced... so deliberate in his singular mission, that you know his fate is sealed from the beginning of the film, although many viewers may not realize it until toward the end, or even until the last few minutes.

I give it a 6/10, only because of the generally good acting which made otherwise unbelievable premise of a train that travels around an ice covered world somewhat tolerable. It's an above average film that breaks out of the mold of typical Hollywood schlock, but fails to rise above the standards for most thought provoking "sci-fi" masterpieces such as Blade Runner, Brazil, Metropolis, or A Clockwork Orange, or even more modern films like District 9 or Children of Men, all of which deal with some of the same moral and ethical themes that Snowpiercer presents and do it with much more subtlety and grace.

The release for this movie was so weird. I ended up getting a copy with out subtitles (maybe those bits never bad subtitles, who knows?) and it still [frick]ing rocked.

Get it, watch it. Great film, good amount of suspension of disbelief, great set pieces, good social allegory.
