SNOWPIERCER Director Says Weinstein's Cuts To The Movie Aren't That Severe

While some cuts are still gonna happen, but because of huge backlash over Harvey Weinstein's planned 20-minute butchering of what had been a massively acclaimed film, it seems the fat [frick] has cooled down

Fans flipped when it was announced that the notorious snip-happy Harvey Weinstein was going to trim Joon-ho Bongs critically acclaimed sci-fi flick by 20 minutes so that audiences in the US Midwest -- that he perceives at thick evidently -- could understand it. Well, the bad news is some cuts are still happening, the good news is they don't seem to be quite so drastic anymore. At a recent press event covered by MSN, Joon-ho Bong addressed the cuts; stating that Weinstein is actually being "soft" towards the edits.

"I came here after editing for the American version," he said. "I've never produced a new version for overseas premieres, and this is the first time I'm making a new version."

"Weinstein is actually being pretty soft toward editing, probably because it's noticed how critics have praised the film and know how angry movie fans get over new edits. They even asked me which parts I want to include in the film," he said.

Well, I'm glad IT decided to see some sense! Still, US audiences will definitely be getting a different cut of the film that received such an overwhelmingly positive response at its Korean screening -- just how different remains to be seen.

still it's a bad thing that the movie was cutted ..

wondering what was cut from it ? What scenes? 20 minutes ?
That's a lot ...

Perhaps it was cutted because Weinstein took notes from the pre scrennings. What people liked, what do they disliked ...

Cuts happen.

Sometimes they've been necessary and helped the film, sometimes they've hurt the flow and actually convoluted the film.

I wouldn't expect the director to say that Weinstein's cuts hurt the film even if they did because it would damage his career and ruin the box office, but the only way I'll actually know the truth would be to see both versions.

I need Harvey Weinstein to teach me how to turn my television on.
And while he's at it, teach me how to operate my microwave.

Its a frightening world we live in when the most powerful country in the world is percieved as one of the thickest too... and by one of its own.... Id be pretty pissed off as an american audience member being underestimated in such a ridiculous way

@Gusto

there is a special kind of cut coming for you ...
No more boring character's development. Just hatchets, gore and trains :)

It's all just a misunderstanding.

He heard the movie was so long that people were getting "ice train."

Weinstein just trying to get that extra dollar once in theaters and twice when they sell the special edition dvd.

I live in the Midwest. They are indeed that thick here. Having said that, I'll just wait and pirate the original version, as opposed to giving my money to Weinstein's hack job.

These cuts may or may not hurt the fil but to me that isn't the point.

Weinstein wants to have a say in the final cut of a film then he needs to direct it. He is diluting what the story the director has intended to for the public to see. If these scenes he is cutting were not important to the overall story I am sure the Director would have cut them for the European release as well.

I'm not watching this or giving it any money until I can get a director's cut.

I live in the Midwest as well. While there are definitely more than enough slow people here, I am not one of them and I was looking forward to this movie until the news of these cuts. Not everyone fits that "Cleetus the slack-jawed local" stereo type in this region. *Ends rant*
