Sony Pictures' Venom 3 has found its director, with the writer/producer of the first two movies, Kelly Marcel, stepping behind the camera to make her feature debut. Marcel is also penning the screenplay (Tom Hardy shares a writing credit) and producing this threequel, so she's certainly going to have her hands full.
The previous Venom movies both had different directors, with Ruben Fleischer helming the first, and Andy Serkis taking over for the recent Let There Be Carnage. Neither was particularly well-received by critics, but they were very successful at the box office.
Plot details are virtually non-existent, but Hardy did recently share an Instagram post teasing Eddie Brock's "last ride," which would seem to suggest that this is will be the actor's final time in the role. Surely that means a face-off with Spider-Man is on the cards... right?
Eddie/Venom did appear in one of Spider-Man: No Way Home's post-credits scenes, with a piece of the symbiote remaining behind in The MCU when Brock was zapped back to his own universe. This led to speculation that a confrontation might be imminent, but it's best not to draw any conclusions when it comes to Sony's "SPUMC!"
Let There Be Carnage ended with Cletus Kasady's (Woody Harrelson) apparent death (though that doesn't mean Carnage won't return), and Detective Pat Mulligan (Stephen Graham) seemingly being taken over by another alien symbiote, possibly setting up the debut of Toxin in this third movie.
Hopefully, now that a director is attached, we'll begin to find out more details on the still untitled Venon 3.
