Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige On Decision To Bring VENOM Into The Marvel Cinematic Universe

Venom: Let There Be Carnage brought Eddie Brock into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige confirms it's something that has been in the works longer than expected...

In Venom: Let There Be Carnage's mid-credits scene, Eddie Brock and his alien symbiote found themselves suddenly teleported to another world. The dive motel they'd been staying in became a luxury resort, while a news report on television confirmed that the duo had landed in a reality the Spectacular Spider-Man - outed as Peter Parker by J. Jonah Jameson - calls home.

The insinuation, of course, is that the spell Doctor Strange casts in Spider-Man: No Way Home (which brings all those familiar villains into the Marvel Cinematic Universe) also pulled in Venom.

We're assuming he'll stick around the MCU for a clash with Tom Holland's web-slinger, but Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has now revealed to Collider that plans to use Venom began shortly after the Lethal Protector's first movie was released in 2018. "You look at the obvious comic connotations between Venom and Spider-Man and it is inherent," he began.

"So the minute Sony made their Venom movie and it worked as well as it did," the prolific producer and executive continued, "and Tom Hardy became as iconic as he has become as Venom, then the obvious question is then, 'How do we start to merge them?'"

You have to believe the stage is being set for the fourth Spider-Man movie to either give Peter his own black costume, or to pit the wall-crawler against Venom in a knockdown brawl. Whatever the case may be, we win as fans, and the future is looking undeniably exciting for both characters. Plus, you just know Eddie will be in good hands with the Marvel Studios team!

Spider-Man: No Way Home arrives in U.S. on December 17 and in the UK on December 15.

Lets hope that the next time Venom appears, its better than the two previous mediocre appearances.

@HeavyMetal4Life - Agreed.
We need to think of how we can merge the 'ok' Holland Spiderman and mediocre Hardy Venom and make both appear better than their parts so we aren't stuck with Sony coming up with some ridiculous crap.
Venom with Hardy... ok to be funny.
Venom without Hardy... could be what we need to give him a more serious tone and i think the 'Lethal Protector' or whatever he called himself in Venom 2 might be that segue into what we need. Venom wants to be a more serious protector. To do so, he can still have a rule not to eat anyone but bad guys... and can do that off screen (mostly). I think it is him seeing Spiderman and emulating him, wanting to be a better hero that could drive this change.
Should Holland ever don the symbiote? Maybe. Maybe that is what changes Venom to becoming more serious... he really likes being Parker and being so 'good' inherently. Parker could even shield him from harm, give him a little hideaway place to draw back into when attacked by sound. This would really put Parker in good with Venom.
But ultimately, Venom needs Eddy. He returns to Eddy to complete each other. He realizes Parker doesn't need him like Eddy needs him.
AND when he is on Parker vs Eddy he actually represents himself differently as well as a change in character... this is when the iconic white spider on black comes out in tribute to Spidey... less of the teeth, more of the huge hulking spidey with stretchy powers.
It would be interesting if Spidey and Venom merged when Spidey was in a tech suit and Venom had access to the AI... what a field day of improv that would be.

In summation, I can see this working. I can see if being a sum which is better than its parts.
Hopefully someone at the MCU is reading this or those discussions are already taking place. Hopefully its not just mopey Parker mated up with Silly over the top Venom/Hardy... that would be the least interesting character arc possible for both.

I wouldn't say iconic or worked well. Made bank, sure, but a horrible iteration.

I haven’t loved the venom movies, but I’m hopeful that a movie with both spidey and him could be cool. I think venom maybe would be cooler as a part of a story and not the main thing.

The Venom movies are not the best, but Tom Hardy is iconic in his own right. Best to try to bring him in while they have an actor of his caliber.

Symbiote should've been found in Titan or in Thanos' ship.

Damn lost opportunity.
Odin

@Fogs - If only they hadn't been introducing Iron Spider -suit first time in action at that exact same moment. They had to to pay the off from Homecoming. Otherwise the opportunity for symbiote debut would've indeed been perfect.

@Odin - Yeah, you're right. Maybe the Sumbiote would save him in space or something. Would've been awesome and HEY - not another Stark deus ex machina.

@TyrantBossMedia - Exactly, he was in space!! aaargh
Origame

@Fogs - that would've overcomplicated infinity war. Especially since Spiderman died on titan.

@Origame - the symbiote didn't have to be explained there. And could vanish with Peter.

It' not often Feige talks rubbish but this is certainly rubbish. I'm surprised and concerned.

@MarvelousMarty - I suspect he saying that in terms of financial success and the non-comic book fans liking of the character, so he's not seeing it as rubbish, but a successful franchise with a growing fan base (which it is).

Cause Avi Arad was able to deliver a watered down wussified soft version of Venom that became a hit, now comes in Kevin "Wuss Master" Feige that sees this Venom is perfect and decides it's now the perfect time to bring him into the MCU.
