It's difficult to imagine a more appropriate title than Venom: Let There Be Carnage for the sequel to 2018's bonkers Marvel Comics adaptation, but it sounds like the movie was almost called something very different - if also quite fitting!
During an interview with Collider, director Andy Serkis revealed that one of the titles considered was actually inspired by Joy Division song!
"We did think for a moment it might be called 'Love Will Tear Us Apart,' that was a going concern for a little while. But 'Let There Be Carnage' just seems to do it. There wasn't a lot of fighting over the other titles we were thinking of. Because this was such a strong contender."
As Serkis has alluded to in the past, Let There Be Carnage has two rather twisted love stories at its core, focusing on the relationship between Eddie Brock and his symbiote, and Cletus Kasady and his equally deranged former flame, Shriek. With that in mind, "Love Will Tear Us Apart" would have been a pretty cool title, though it's easy enough to understand why the idea was ultimately dropped.
Like its predecessor, Venom 2 wasn't met with the warmest reception from critics (it's currently sitting just under "fresh" stratus on RT at 59%), but that clearly hasn't dissuaded cinemagoers from checking it out for themselves, as the movie ended up exceeding all expectations with a huge $90+ million debut.
