VENOM: LET THERE BE CARNAGE Director Andy Serkis Reveals Why He's Not Returning To Helm VENOM 3

We recently learned that Venom and Venom: Let There Be Carnage writer Kelly Marcel is gearing up to helm Venom 3, and filmmaker Andy Serkis has now revealed why he won't be returning for the threequel.

Venom was directed by Ruben Fleischer, but when he moved on to Zombieland: Double Tap and Uncharted, he was taken out of the running for Venom: Let There Be Carnage. Instead, the franchise was handed to Andy Serkis, and while his sequel was shockingly brief, it was a definite improvement over its predecessor.

After all, it was hard to not have fun seeing Venom and Carnage come to blows, and it sounds like Serkis had a good time making the movie. So, why isn't he returning for Venom 3?

Talking to Slash Film about his standout role in Andor, the actor and filmmaker explained, "Look, I had a ball doing [Venom: Let There Be Carnage]. Tom Hardy is such a good friend of mine, and I felt very proud of the work, and we had such fun doing it. To be the custodian of that franchise for a little while was great."

"I've got so many projects that I was just about to [work on], like Animal Farm for instance. We were just about to go into production with that, and then we delayed as Venom came up," Serkis continued. "I really have to be very on top of the ones that I've been building to do for such a long time."

As for what he thinks about Marcel - who wrote the first two movies and the upcoming third instalment - taking charge, he added, "I'm really delighted that Kelly's doing that. She's so in control of that material with Tom. The pair of them are such a great team to work with. I'm really excited to see what they're going to come up with."

We're certainly intrigued to see what she does behind the camera, and what direction this next instalment will head in. Carnage felt very much like the main event, but he's dead and gone, leaving only Toxin as the next logical choice of big bad (which, to be totally honest, feels a tad underwhelming).

While Venom 3 doesn't currently have a release date, Sony's Spider-Man Universe continues taking shape, with Kraven the Hunter set to be released on October 6, 2023, followed by El Muerto on January 12, 2024 and Madame Web on February 16, 2024.

Venom was bad, somehow 2 was even worse.

Shame the MCU never grabbed him as a high profile character

Grabbed Tom Hardy that is

@SimplyAz - I mean they could have utilized Ulysses Klaue a lot better than they did. His death in Black Panther was kinda a waste of the characters potential. I understand he was used as a pawn of Killmongers and his corpse was more useful after a point, i get all that and that idea is cool and all, but not cooler than having Serkis pop up in the MCU time after time as Klaue with the same amount of attention and development Loki got.

I was let down initially by his death, i didnt even believe it, thought it was a misdirect because they barely scratched the surface of Klaue.

But when it comes to their villains, the MCU gonna MCU.

@TheVandalore -

I'd have loved to have seen more of Klaue every once in a while.
Can't believe we lost him and Killmonger in the same movie

@SimplyAz - right!

I can't believe I didn't realize this is the 3rd funeral for T'challa in the MCU in like the span of a few years. Seems like they would be used to laying him to rest by Wakanda Forever. Like would they even be grieving the same knowing he literally just came back twice?

Kinda makes the whole emotional aspect of the film a bit less hard hitting. My fear is they milk the Chad-tears too much. Like i want them to pay respect to him but i dont want this film to USE the hurt of Chads death to enhance the films emotional strength. That seems cheap. Honor the man, but dont dwell on it for the sake of a film.

I love Serkis but he’s dodging a bullet, Venom 2 was atrocious.

“improvement over its predecessor” 🤣 Such an awful movie Venom 2 is. The Cletus love thing was beyond stupid. Woody was extremely embarrassing in V2.

venom 2 was a huge miss, but i thought the approach he took on mowgli was still really really fascinating, and could lead to some striking moments for his animal farm adaptation. the book's a bit on the shorter side though, so i wonder how much he'll pad it out. thought he was really good in andor & the batman this year too.

Because there’s more dignity in directing cheap porn than in directing a Tom Hardy Venom movie.

For seeing Carnage on the big screen for the first time, it was a huge miss. Which for me in my own opinion really sucked because he is my all time favorite Symbiote. And to see where they went with the character and the mannerisms, the voice, just didn’t do it for me.

Venom 2 felt like it cut out the mid section of the movie.
