Venom: Let There Be Carnage director Andy Serkis talks about the possibility of Spider-Man appearing in Venom 3 and whether he considered including more Easter Eggs teasing the wall-crawler's existence...

Venom: Let There Be Carnage arrives exclusively at UK cinemas from October 15, and we were fortunate enough to sit down with director Andy Serkis to discuss his "ultimate Marvel movie."

There are some amazing Easter Eggs in the sequel, but only a couple of very subtle nods to Spider-Man. With that in mind, we asked the filmmaker if he considered upping the number of references to the web-slinger or if he wanted to keep the focus on Carnage for the time being (note: this interview was conducted prior to the release of Venom: Let There Be Carnage in U.S. theaters).

"In this story, we wanted to continue it being in its own universe and not have it cross over too much into anything else," Serkis confirmed. "There was so much to unpack with this story; the odd couple relationship, the introduction of Cletus and Carnage. We had an embarrassment of riches in terms of what stories we could tell here. Shriek. Her backstory and blending it all together."

"It really felt like there wasn’t any more room to start going to the next phase, and I think if and when it does happen, it will land at the right time, as a result, by not rushing into it."

The Venom sequel had a huge $90 million opening weekend in North America, so a third chapter seems likely. Nothing has been confirmed at this stage, of course, but we asked Serkis if he believes a meeting between Eddie Brock and Peter Parker is an inevitability following the events of this movie.

"Who knows? I don’t know where it’s heading, but hopefully, this film…you can’t count on anything…but hopefully, this film will do well and people will go and see it," the director continues. "I do feel it’s the right film for right now because I think people will enjoy it. If they do get out and make the effort to see it in cinemas, I think it’s a perfectly uplifting fun and dark film that will be hugely entertaining. Hopefully, it will reinvigorate people to go back to the cinemas."

"Who knows? Who knows?" Serkis pondered. "We’ll have to wait and see."

Watch the full interview in the player below to hear from Serkis on possible Venom 3 plans, that battle between Venom and Eddie, Carnage's origin story, comic book inspiration, and much more.

As much as I love Andy Serkis, this felt exactly like the first film. It was all over the place, the editing was choppy, and he doesn’t have a distinct style to make him stand out. This whole movie was a nothing sandwich until the after credits scene. Idk if Sony went with Serkis just to add another name to market or whatever, but it was generic as hell.

SPOILERS

That said, I hope with Venom’s inclusion in the MCU, his movies start getting better treatment and bit more thought put into them. Only time will tell

@thelastson18 - It definitely felt like Serkis and co. turned in a 2+ hour movie, that reviewed about as well as the first Venom movie, so the executives said “Speed everything up, cut out 20-30 minutes, and make the movie move so fast that the audience won’t have time to recognize the crap when they see it.”

@dragon316 - I can barely comprehend what you said, but everyone is entitled to their opinions, so I respect yours. However, in my opinion, the venom films have been lackluster and I think they can reach a higher quality since he’s now part of the MCU. Im not saying the MCU is perfect, but with its track record, it’s hard to dispute they don’t put out quality

@dragon316 - also, I agree that movies are meant for entertainment and we don’t need to nitpick every little thing. Everyone can enjoy whatever. But this site allows us to voice opinions, and I think @santoanderson was just voicing theirs. Relax a little, yknow?

"Who knows"? LOL They know exactly. There's too much money to be made, as big as this movie was, plus even bigger Spider-Man movie, having them two meet up will be huge.

Too bad the movie was pretty terrible. I found myself bored on multiple occasions and disappointed in how the characters are portrayed. I love these characters in general, so sad.

''it will land at the right time, as a result, by not rushing into it''

Hope Sony understands this too. Right now the planned movies they have feel kinda unnecessary since there isn't a need to do them. Atleast with doing individual movies for the Marvel heroes it lead up to the Avengers.

Andy is an incredible actor but his directing has been pretty bad.

He is still in the growing stage so you cant judge him for his short comings right now....🙃
