VENOM: LET THERE BE CARNAGE Director Andy Serkis Teases Exploring "Lethal Protector" In VENOM 3 (Exclusive)

Venom: Let There Be Carnage director Andy Serkis shares his excitement about the possibility of following Eddie Brock as a "Lethal Protector" in the next instalment of the Venom franchise. Check it out...

Ahead of Venom: Let There Be Carnage's release exclusively at UK cinemas from October 15, we caught up with director Andy Serkis to pick his brain about taking the helm of the Marvel sequel.

Without getting into spoilers, Eddie Brock's clash with Cletus Kasady definitely sets the stage for the former to become the Lethal Protector from the comic books fans know and love. While nothing has been confirmed just yet regarding a possible Venom 3, it feels like another big evolution is in the works for the character that makes this sequel even more of a must-watch for fans.

In the video below, we ask the filmmaker about Venom's desire to become a "Lethal Protector" and whether that's something he'd be excited to explore with the iconic anti-hero moving forward.

"For sure," Serkis tells us. "To arrive at that point, we needed to have this film to get those relationships cooking. I do think there’s huge fertile ground for Lethal Protector stories, definitely."

Heading down this route sets the stage for a much different take on Venom that opens the door to many new storytelling possibilities and villains (who aren't just symbiotes like Riot and Carnage). Needless to say, you'll have to watch Venom: Let There Be Carnage to see how Serkis manages to lay the groundwork for this evolution, and we'll have lots more to share with you on this one very soon.

Watch the full interview below for more on Venom, Carnage, and a possible meeting with Spider-Man!

@VictorAlonzo - yeah, I was kind of bored throughout Venom 2.

I liked the first one, & this one seemed like a retread of “establishing” the romance between Venom & Brock. We’ve already set up their dynamic, why are we repeating similar beats?

But I think it was also because Venom has no action until the final fight. And by that point it his ONLY conflict with Carnage. In the third act no less.

To have your villain and hero barely meet just before the final dual? It’s just not as satisfying.

"Evolution"

"We are Lethal Protectors."

"No we're not."

"Ok we're Lethal Protectors now."

"Ok."

God I love these movies.

Can the next one please be bigger. These movies are clearly popular enough. And I don’t mean end of the world sky on fire big. I just mean multiple action sequences spread throughout the movie. People for Venom to actually fight. And preferably not just another symbiote.

@TheUnworthyThor - This seems to be a problem for most studios not name Marvel. Action doesn't equal spectacle, and vice versa.

@KWilly - I’m not sure that’s going to take place in Venom 3 and even if it does I doubt Spider-man would be his main antagonist in the film.

Idc about a part 3 I just wish somebody other than Avi Arad and not even Kevin Feige were doing Venom.

No offense but Serkis’s vision didn’t do it for me, felt like more of the first movie and no actual new Serkis style that set this one above the previous film. They could’ve said the same dude from Venom made Venom 2 and I would’ve believed them…
Never understood why writers don’t just use the actual source material people like instead of trying to reinvent the characters.
So for Venom 3 I’d like to see new writers and new director. But I’d mostly like to see a venom movie where Sony doesn’t interfere with the creative process and please allow violence with blood. If Deadpool can pull it off so can a Venom movie.

@slickrickdesigns - To be honest these Venom films are just poorly thought out and not much effort made with the stories.. because they could easily make a great PG-13 Venom film. I also think the same for Deadpool or Joker, yes R Rating great, but they could make good films out of those characters with a PG-13, just people are a bit obsessed with R Rating these days 😂 Justice League and Birds of Prey should never ever be R Rated, ok I’ll allow the SnyderCut since it’s a director’s cut and it was a pretty soft R, but Birds of Prey? The amount of little girls that bought Harley toys and dressed up as Harley Quinn for Halloween.. they’re idiots for making it R Rated, they would’ve got way more money than they did 😂

slickrickdesigns - 10/7/2021, 9:52 AM
@JohnCastillo - gotchya.. I agree for the most part but I like having a couple R rated comic book movies. I think some characters are suited for more violence and adult related situations… for example, I’d rather see an R rated Spawn movie than another crappy PG13 movie.

Santanaonfire - 10/7/2021, 11:44 AM
@JohnCastillo - I tried to show my 10 year old daughter birds of prey and she tapped out because it was too violent for her, so you make a fair point for that IP. In terms of violence, personally, I didn’t think BoP was a hard R, though not quite soft either. But I also don’t think BoP needed to be R, whereas I think Deadpool benefits from it greatly, as does Logan, Joker, and I would argue at least LTBC would have, and probably the fist Venom, too.

JohnCastillo - 10/7/2021, 12:17 PM
@Santanaonfire - Birds of Prey to your 10 year old daughter 😂 are you mad my guy lol Black Mask skins people’s faces, makes a woman strip to where she’s almost naked whilst crying, swear (curse) words galore, a couple sexual stuff.. I actually showed my 12 year old sister the film but I edited the film down first.. yeah some call me crazy but I actually edit a bunch of R Rated films to get them down to a more PG version so I can show my niece and little sister 😂
JohnCastillo
JohnCastillo - 10/7/2021, 12:21 PM
@slickrickdesigns - Yeah you both make good points which I agree with. But when criticising a PG-13 Comic Book film from a darker character the biggest complaint I see is that is should have been R Rated, all of these films including Spawn can very easily be great PG-13 films.. my whole point is that the rating should never be a criticism or a positive.. if you didn’t like the film it’s because of the story, which would have been shit regardless of the rating lol.
slickrickdesigns
slickrickdesigns - 10/7/2021, 1:44 PM
@JohnCastillo - I’m saying this film could’ve been saved if Carnage actually killed people brutally and instead of his symbiote weapons whipping people, imagine if he actually stabbed, sliced and decapitated people. It would’ve made the movie much more entertaining and I don’t think you can do that without an R rating. As I said before Deadpool is a perfect example of what an R rating can achieve with comic book characters.
Santanaonfire
Santanaonfire - 10/7/2021, 3:18 PM
@JohnCastillo - I guess it’s a good think we didn’t make it that far! Lol

That’s actually not a bad idea to edit it down. I like video editing. Where do you get a copy you can edit, a torrent?
JohnCastillo
JohnCastillo - 10/8/2021, 2:15 AM
@slickrickdesigns - Saved is too dramatic, I don’t think the film would’ve been saved with an R Rating, yeah those kinda scenes would have been more vicious and scary which is good for Carnage but an R wouldn’t have saved the film, it would have still been crappy 😂
JohnCastillo
JohnCastillo - 10/8/2021, 2:17 AM
@Santanaonfire - When I download from torrents I normally get MKV files, now MKV is the best video file but it’s not compatible with Premiere Pro so I just download films on MP4 normally from a streaming site like LetMeWatchThis or Primewire.. although unfortunately those kind of sites always get taken down so I just keep looking around for others.

I genuinely don’t know if Ruben Fleischer and Andy Serkis are bad directors or if Sony just won’t let these movies be anything other than terrible. I guess we’ll see when Morbius comes out 🤷🏽‍♂️

Man I didn’t like this film at all.. everything from Venom and Eddie’s annoying relationship to Shriek and Cassidy’s storyline.. it didn’t work for me. I thought Carnage was a disappointment too, not interesting enough. It’s funny when studios fail to make an interesting story for a Comic Book film.. they literally have a library of what works for these characters and what doesn’t 😂 the dialogue was pretty bad, the script itself was just poorly written in my opinion. And when Cassidy said “let there be carnage” I just laughed, proper Will Smith “some kinda Suicide Squad” vibes with that line. But the saving grace was the end credit scene, one of the best end credit scenes I’ve seen in terms of pure surprise and excitement.

I tried defending this movie before it came out just to give it a chance, but it really was worse than I thought it’d even be. More than anything it just feels like those in charge don’t understand Venom or Eddie. I hate that Venom is a seperate character in these movies. They’re supposed to be a joint person. Does anyone else feel like the Raimi movies at leasr handled that aspect better? Where the symbiote didn’t talk on its own and just influenced the host to become one new character? Venom leaving Eddie to go to a rave sounded awful on paper but good God, seeing it, along with the “I’m out of the Eddie closet” line was something else. Wtf are they thinking that they’re doing here? Venom isn’t supposed to be cute.
SpideyPuffsMJ
SpideyPuffsMJ - 10/7/2021, 10:23 AM
@Waddles - You’re right. I might prefer that to the goofy sentient symbiote we have now that has a speaking role and never even bonds with it’s host but just takes over a body. Cletus and Carnage not getting along rubbed me the wrong way as well, along with his botched deep voice.

OptimusCrime
OptimusCrime - 10/7/2021, 4:06 PM
@dragon316 - Thats because Sony doesnt ownn any other Marvel heroes... and regarding team-ups you can blame Sony for that, part of the deal is that high caliber MCU character is in his Movie.

We can also blame sony for killing of villains who could easily be part of more than 1 movie.

JohnCastillo - 10/8/2021, 2:26 AM
@dragon316 - I get what you mean but I think Homecoming and Far From Home are good films so I’ll forgive that. Anyway we’re gonna have this version of Spidey for a long time I think and he’ll soon become a man and do his own things, he’s still a kid. But bottom line for me is are the films good and I say yes they are.. Venom on the other hand has had two very mediocre films unfortunately.

I'm sorry but this movie was awful.
The dialog was laughable, the humor was cringey and the plot was more of the same. I don't know if they were trying to go the "buddy-cop" route with the Venom and Eddie relationship... But whatever it was...sucked. I felt bad for Hardy with some of the lines he had to spit out and some of the 3 stooges type physical comedy he had to endure.

They need to get a whole new creative team behind this.... It can be saved.
