On the heels of last week's gloriously gruesome red band trailer, Warner Bros. Animation has released the first clip from the upcoming Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion's Revenge movie.

This sneak peek reigns in the bloody action to introduce some classic characters from the original video game, as Johnny Cage meets Liu Kang, Sonya Blade and Raiden for the first time. He's a total douche right off the bat, of course, and seems to think he's on a movie set. Something tells us he'll be pulled right back down to Earth(realm) pretty soon.

Check out the clip below and let us know what you think. Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion's Revenge is set to be released on Digital on April 12, and Blu-ray and DVD on April 28. Do you plan on picking it up?

Based on the worldwide hit game created by Ed Boon & John Tobias, Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge spotlights the once-in-a-generation tournament between the champions of Outworld and Earthrealm - a competition that will ultimately determine the fate of Earth and all its citizens. Lord Raiden, protector of Earthrealm, must gather the greatest fighters of his realm to defend it from the evil Shang Tsung in the battle to end all battles - Mortal Kombat!

Directed by Ethan Spaulding from a script by Jeremy Adams, Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge stars Joel McHale as Johnny Cage, Jennifer Carpenter as Sonya Blade, Jordan Rodrigues as Scorpion & Hanzo Hasashi, Steve Blum as Sub-Zero, Artt Butler as Shang Tsung, Darin De Paul as Quan Chi, Robin Atkin Downes as Kano, David B. Mitchell as Raiden, Ike Amadi as Jax Briggs, Kevin Michael Richardson as Goro, Grey Griffin as Kitana & Satoshi Hasashi, and Fred Tatasciore as Demon Torturer.

Recently rewatched the first movie. I'd forgotten how hilariously bad it was.

@Reeds2Much - Pretty sure next year's reboot will be even worse

@tmp3 @Reeds2Much

The first movie is pretty terrible but at least it has that badass soundtrack and Johnny Cage’s hammy performance. Along with a semi-accurate storyline. Robin Shou is a badass, too.

Haha. But yeah it’s pretty awful for the most part.

@Reeds2Much - Still the best video game movie (or did sonic really give us something good, I have not watched it)

@dracula - Sonic is a "fun" movie. Not blowing any socks off but uts a decent watch. Especially if you love 90s Jim Carrey. But yeah agreed. Mk 1 is still the best. I also throw Heavy Rain in the mix since it felt like a movie when playing it.

@Reeds2Much - rewatching the original is cheesy fun for me, it’s the sequel that’s really bad....

Oh, don't get me started on that! The new MK reboot literally hired an amateur director who has never worked on a movie before, a screenwriter who has never worked on a movie before, and a bunch of hack producers to go along with it. The only competent filmmaker attached to that thing is James Wan, and he's just one producer. Why, WB, why?!?

To everyone looking forward to the MK reboot to be good solely based on the cast and R-rating... Good luck with that one.

some of the Costumes seem a bit over designed, could have gone more simple like the first game

@dracula -
All of the costumes are from Mortal Kombat X, except for Johnny Cage and Shang Tsung (who have their MK9 designs).

I think I am going to give this a shot. Animation style looks good and fitting for this.

Off-topic: Dylan Walsh has been cast in Superman & Lois as Lois's father General Sam Lane. This is kind of a re-casting since a different actor portrayed him in CBS.

@NinnesMBC - liked him in Nip/Tuck, although looks kind of young for the role.

@dracula - Ah yeah you are right, he was one of the main leads in that show. I almost didn't recognize him.

His casting makes me think there could be some post-Crisis effects on him. In The Flash we saw how Barry couldn't find his parents' graves because Earth-2 merged with his one so it got moved to somewhere else, Batwoman and Supergirl showed us doppelgangers stranded on Earth Prime and the effects if they stay there too long while their canon counter parts are still there. And Crisis did end with the tease that Clark wasn't aware they now had "boys" and the teens Jonathan was aged up.

So nothing rules out that Dylan Walsh could be playing the same character from SG S1 but he was instead de-aged thanks to Crisis.

@NinnesMBC - yeah been a long time since Nip/Tuck came out, think ive only seen him in 1 or 2 movies since then.

True, it could be an alternate earth version, wonder if they will consider new versions of Maxwell Lord and Lucy, considering there was no mention of them in the 100th episode, I think the ship has sailed on any possibility of more season 1 actors coming back

@dracula - Well I meant more that it is the same character from S1 but just de-aged as a side effect of Crisis as a whole. He got Benjamin Button-ed so to speak. But it could be as well another doppelganger like you speculate.

Maybe as guest starring roles but in that case I can't imagine them re-casting like in this scenario for the time being.

This looks pretty good. The animation's a bit choppy but it reminds me a bit of Tartakovsky stuff.

I haven't played the Mortal Kombat games in years but I always love watching their in game movie scenes on YouTube. I hope this will be close to that. Anyway, it will be a nice change from my constant Disney/DC animated movies.
