MORTAL KOMBAT Reboot Casts Hiroyuki Sanada As Scorpion And Chin Han As Shang Tsung

New Line's Mortal Kombat has cast two of the video game's classic characters. Chin Han (The Dark Knight) will portray lead villain Shang Tsung, while Hiroyuki Sanada (Avengers: Endgame will play Scorpion.

Well, Lewis Tan ain't playing Scorpion!

The cast of New Line's upcoming Mortal Kombat reboot is really starting to fill out, with two classic villainous characters from the original video game the latest to join the fray.

According to Variety, Chin Han (The Dark Knight, Skyscraper) will play evil shape-shifter Shang Tsung, and Hiroyuki Sanada (The Wolverine, Avengers: Endgame) will suit-up as undead ninja Scorpion. They join previously announced cast members Joe Taslim (Sub Zero), Mehcad Brooks (Jax) and Ludi Lin (Liu Lang), Jessica McNamee (Sonya) and Josh Lawson (Kano).

As previously mentioned, Iron Fist actor Lewis Tan has also been cast in an undisclosed role. 

Plot details on the new movie remain a mystery for now, but it's assumed that it'll follow the basic premise of the original video game: a group of warriors assemble to compete in a tournament to protect the Earth from the demonic forces of Outworld.

Mortal Kombat is set to commence production in South Australia later this year, and will slice its way into theaters on March 5, 2021.

Hiroyuki Sanada is a bad-ass. He'd be a great seasoned Scorpion. Chin Han is always gonna be Lau from TDK for me, but maybe that's because I've seen that film so many times.
I have no faith in the crew behind this though. Also, Lewis Tan suuuuuucks.

Damn this cast is getting me excited, it's so good to see a lot of Asian actors getting more exposure. Chin Han played a very similar character as Shang Tsung in the underrated Marco Pollo on Netflix so he'll do good in the part. Sanda seems alittle old for scorpion, but he's always a highlight in movies.

Sanada was good in Extant, but he has to be approaching 60. That's kind of an odd choice to me.

Eh I don't know how I feel about Sanada just yet. I mean the guy is the most badass samurai who just happens to be an actor but seeing him opposite Joe Taslim's Sub Zero might be weird. But I can't think of anyone else at the moment. Chin Han as Shang Tsung is pretty good.

Lewis Tan should just be Kung Lao. That role fits him.

I think Tan may actually end up being Cage. He has that cocky aura about him for the role.

I'm surprised at No.1 their rebooting MK and No.2 there seems to be a lot of interest. I actually thought this was a pointless idea when first announced but it seems to gather some real traction.
