Sub-Zero Actor Bayardo De Murguia Hopes To Bring GREEN LANTERN Kyle Rayner Into The DCAU (Exclusive)

Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms is set to be released on August 31, and this week, we've been catching up with some of the film's cast. On Monday, we spoke to Bayardo De Murguia (Tiny Pretty Things) about his role as Kuai Liang/Sub-Zero, and expressed interest in returning to Warner Bros. Animation to join the DC Animated Universe.

As a result, we had to ask if there are any dream roles Bayardo has in mind. It just so happens that's something the actor has given some thought to, and there's one superhero he definitely has his eye on.

"Ohh...I mean, everyone always wants to be Batman [Laughs]," he initially responded. "You know what, for the future, because I’m Mexican-American, I’d take a swing at Kyle Rayner who is one of the Green Lanterns. He’s also Mexican-American, so I would say him. You haven’t seen much of him and I’d like to give it a shot one day!"

Just like in live-action, the Green Lantern Corps haven't really taken centre stage in animation for quite a few years now, and they're arguably long overdue for a movie of their own. If and when that does happen, it would be awesome to see Kyle take on a leading role (especially as it seems he's the only human Lantern not set to factor into the upcoming TV show and movie reboots).

We'll have to wait and see, but based on his work as Sub-Zero, we'd love to see Bayardo given the opportunity to put his spin on this character in a Green Lantern animated feature. Make sure to check back here on Saturday as that's when we'll be sharing our full interview with the actor.

Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms arrives August 31 on 4K/Blu-ray & Digital!

Rayner was always my second favorite after Hal. But easily my favorite (Human) GL costume

That should be the next movie in the Man of Tomorrow-verse. (That's what I'm calling it until further notice lol)

We've seen their take on Supes, MM, Flash and Batman. Now they should go for the Corps, and yeah, Rayner would be a nice addition in it.

@KWilly - what did you think of Man of Tomorrow? I’m a big Superman fan and I found it a little boring. The animation was nice though

@thelastson18 - It was a little boring, but I still liked it enough. Like 7 outta 10

@KWilly - I agree with that rating. We need some more Superman content

First Flight remains my favorite Green Lantern anything, and John Stewart from the DCAU was a badass in JL and JLU. It’s a shame the 2011 movie effectively shelved these characters for so long when we’ve had worse movies come out after and get reboots faster. I remember everyone reciting the oath with our light up power rings at the 12am showing way back when….good times

@thelastson18 - Idk if you've ever seen this show, but it was excellent.

@KWilly - I used to see it advertised but never gave it a fair shot. I won’t lie, I’m not huge into CG animation. And that rings true even for What If. If it’s on HBO Max I have no excuse to avoid it anymore!

@thelastson18 - I was 16 when the movie came out. I was really into the Geoff Johns comics at the time and I was really excited. I was also really into drugs at the time too, and took a bunch of Triple C’s before the showing. It made the movie one of the most memorable experiences of my life. The movie was horrible but I just remember uncontrollably laughing at Hector Hammond with my friends. Every heartfelt scene felt so unnatural and forced. Horrible movie but it has some good parts.

@RichardGrayson - Lmao! I was 17 when it came out and I don’t think I even knew what weed was back then. Same here with the Geoff Johns comics, Blackest Night was such an amazing comic event for DC. Everyone was talking about it, getting the figures, etc. I don’t think we’ve seen anything come close to it from them since

@thelastson18 - It actually is on HBO Max. Check it out. Animation is fine imo. And the show is serialized, not episodic.

@Dredd97 - dude it’s my go to comfort show, I can watch season 1-11 on repeat without hesitation and still laugh at the jokes. It’s just that good

@thelastson18 - GL TAS is dope.

The best GL content is:
Green Lantern: First Flight
Green Lantern: TAS
“Hearts and Minds’ and ‘In Blackest Night’ from Justice League TAS along with “In Brightest Day” from STAS
“The eyes of desperate” from BATB

@thelastson18 - Absolutely! Same way. I don't usually branch out past 11, but those first few are just so comforting lol and hilarious. The writer's room is firing on all cylinders always during that era

I know nothing of him or his talents honestly but if he could bring Kyle to the DCAU, sweet.

Live action, I always thought Ryan Guzman(until he stepped in it last year) or Tyler Posey could do it justice.

Who wants to scrap?!

Kyle and Wally were one of the best parts of Morrison's historic run on JLA. I'd love to see that translated into something cinematic.

For a second I though that was Freddie Prinze Jr in the thumbnail.

Anyway, I wouldn't mind seeing Kyle Rayner on screen soon. Still even think he should've been one of the Lanterns in the upcoming show. Although they could still do that, since they don't have a Lantern yet for the modern day setting.

Kyle is criminally underutilized in all mediums.

When people say DCAU I assume they’re referring to all the Bruce Timm DC shows that all connect (Batman: TAS, Superman: TAS, The New Batman Adventures, Batman Beyond, The Zeta Project, Static Shock, Justice League and Justice League Unlimited) but it could also mean every other DC cartoon shows and movies and don’t all connect. Kyle Rayner did appear in the DCAU. Once on an episode of Superman: TAS and again in an episode of Justice League Unlimited.
