The next couple of years look set to be huge for Tom Holland; he has Cherry, Chaos Walking, Spider-Man 3, and Uncharted on the way, and the latter has generated a lot of attention online.
Many fans of Naughty Dog's hit franchise are disappointed that Sony Pictures is telling the story of a young Nathan Drake, but it seems there may be a good reason for that. In a recent interview with Total Film, Holland indicated that the movie is going to serve as a prequel to those beloved games.
"Uncharted is a film I finished last year," Holland said, reflecting on a busy few months. "It's Mark Wahlberg and myself. It's a prequel to the Naughty Dog game series, Uncharted. I play Nathan Drake. Ruben Fleischer is our director, and he did an amazing job. I'm really chuffed with it. It's fun, it's funny, it's epic. It's going to be really entertaining. The action sequences are some of the coolest sequences that I've ever done. So I'm super-excited about that."
The Uncharted games did a pretty good job of exploring Nate's youth, though there are definitely still some gaps that could be filled in. With that in mind, it's likely this movie is going to address some of those, while fitting into the timeline established by the games. That should be welcomed by fans, as it's clearly not going to put a completely different spin on the character.
Unfortunately, Uncharted was recently delayed, and is now heading our way on February 11th, 2022.
