UNCHARTED Star Mark Wahlberg Explains Why The Costumes Have Put Him Off A Superhero Role

We've seen Mark Wahlberg in a lot of different action roles over the years, but the Uncharted star has now revealed why the colourful costumes have put him off joining a superhero project. Check it out...

There's a lot of uncertainty surrounding Mark Wahlberg's role as Victor "Sully" Sullivan in Uncharted, particularly as the actor plays pretty much the same character in every movie he's in. That's not to say he isn't good at what he does, but Wahlberg is definitely an odd pick to star as Nathan Drake's mentor.

For as many action movies as we've seen Wahlberg in - including the Transformers franchise - he's also yet to star in a comic book or superhero project. Talking to CinePop, the actor explained that while he wouldn't rule out joining the Marvel or DC Universes, the costumes are a little problematic for him.

"I like them enough, I'm not one of those purists who is like 'Oh this is not cinema,'" he responded when asked for his thoughts on the genre. "I think the audiences decide and obviously, they [superhero movies] have been wildly successful. It's just that for me, personally, as an actor, I would have a really hard time walking out of my trailer with a cape on, and a spandex suit."

"But that being said, I was working really hard to bring The Six Million Dollar Man to the screen, which is based on a TV series. And it was based on a lot of wish-fulfilment and what this character could do, based on what they did to him. But it was grounded in reality and you felt like it would be much more believable as being realistic, to me, to be able to play that part, and feel like 'I could do this,' in a way that didn't feel silly. But you never know: maybe the right part will come along!"

There's been no word on The Six Million Dollar Man for some time, and it's hard to picture a Marvel or DC role that Wahlberg would be a good fit for. Joining one of those worlds could be a good opportunity for the actor to reinvent himself in the eyes of many fans, but if it involves a costume, it seems unlikely to happen. He did, however, say "We'll see," so it appears the door isn't completely closed on his end.

Can you think of a good superhero role for the Uncharted star?

@BlackBeltJones -

Before June 23, 1989, nobody thought this guy could either:

@tylerzero - Ah yes, the guy who said he couldn't quite figure out was going on with The Flash, although I can't fault him on that one.

Trying not to be a hater, but there is no superhero role I would like to see Mark fill.

As entertaining as Walberg can be, I just don't see him fitting into the Marvel or DC world. Maybe as a side character that isn't a hero, but aside from that I don't think it would gel much. But hey, you never know! Never thought I'd enjoy Paul Rudd as Ant-Man as much as I have. But Paul Rudd can do no wrong... Mark on the other hand.

That’s a tough one. He’s at his best when he’s talking fast and sarcastic. Maybe the Question? Can’t see actors or producers going for a role where you never see their face though.

That's a pretty solid answer. Didn't expect the ''because their not cinema'' answer from him anyway, but I can understand why he would say it's not for him.

If he ever shows up in a CBM though, I just want him in a role similar to his The Other Guys role. Still my favorite Wahlberg, favorite Ferrell and favorite McKay movie

There is only one super hero Mark would be good at playing.

Never say never. I'm sure he would love to play a racist villain in a superhero film.

Why would he ever do a superhero movie? He only does films based off real-life tragedies that he can then turn into over the top action movies to make money off of.

He would be MUCH BETTER as BRUCE WAYNE and BATMAN than the guy they have right now! I would love to see him play a Marvel or DC WESTERN CHARACTER.
