Michael Wilkinson Suggests That Classic 'Wonder Woman' Costume is Not Off Table

Is Batman vs. Superman costume designer Michael Wilkinson going for more of a well known 'Wonder Woman' look than previously presumed?

In previous reports concerning the costume that would adorn 'Wonder Woman' on the big screen, to the relief of some fans, it was reported that the audience might expect to see the heroine of heroines in a more conservative looking armor, reminiscent of 'Faora Ul' in the 2013 premier installment of the cinematic series. But, how accurate were those reports?

During an interview with The Wrap, Michael Wilkinson was quizzed about his involvement in the upcoming Man of Steel sequel and specifically about his vision for Gal Gadot's 'Wonder Woman' look.

Here's what Wilkinson had to say when asked if he found it realistic for her to be fighting crime in her iconic outfit:

"Absolutely! I mean, you just have to look at the gladiators from ancient Rome, they did their thing in little loin clothes and shield….It works for Thor, it works for 300, so let’s see what happens.”

"It's thrilling and slightly scary prospect. It’s so important to get her right. She really deserves to be presented on-screen in her full glory. So what I do is I look at the history of how the character has been presented on the big-screen, and the small-screen, and in comic books, and graphic novels. We process it all. Then we kind of put that aside and work out what is right for our film, for the cinematic universe that our director Zack Snyder is putting together. We try and create a Wonder Woman that’s relevant for today’s audiences.”

Being that this is one of the few times when a "politically correct" change is so popularly welcomed, how disappointed would you personally be to see Gadot in the Princess of Themyscira's classic look? Sound off in the usual place and don't forget to hit the red glove if you liked it. As always, thanks for reading.

[frick] the swimsuit look. This hoplite & gladiator look is the best route to go with it.

Well that is interesting to hear. I don't think WW will end up looking like how she is in the comics. But it's good to hear that it is a possibility. Plus I like how he said the gladiators and Spartans didn't wear much at all. Because the extra stuff they could wear just made them slower.

I hope she's doing a lot of squats if they plan to show off her legs.

They shouldn't use the exact comic design, just loosely base it off the comics.

"Relevant for today's audiences..." Is that what you did in Man of Steel?

They didn't do that in Thor. Sif has armor everywhere unfortunately.

MrBlackJack I knew it was a little old but I wasn't sure if it was ever reported on here. I don't recall...

I really don't mind costume changes that fit the character, tone of the movie and making it more modern.
Like, I don't mind the X Men leather costumes. They're a school, a TEAM, so they should dress in the same uniform.

As with WW it'd be nice if they made a reference to her classic underwear-like look but I would want to see an updated modernised version.

I'd like to see her in a more gladiator-style of outfit but then again I wouldn't mind seeing her like this:

I just don't care what incarnation of the costume they use as long as it's practical and translates well on screen.

Gal Gadot looks good in anything though.

The main thing I want is silver instead of gold. The silver just looks so much better.

@Cherry

I'd prefer they avoid that for the sheer fact that it makes WW look like she belongs in Arrow or some street gang. She's meant to stand out being a top tier hero and apart of the Trinity. To me, that look is so generic and bland. The equivalent of making Superman wear jeans and a t shirt with an S written on in black ink. Like an ordinary S. Not the Superman S.

Sif looked awfully gorgeous, even without showing off her legs or cleavage or anything like that. I seriously hope WW follows suit...literally.

As long as they keep the colors there, not muted like Superman's suit.

My hatred of the red lines and seeing them compels to Americanise the word "colour" to vanquish the red lines.

WW's suit is not slutty, it only becomes slutty when artists oversexualise WW by making it a thong and too low cut with massive breasts. See some Alex Ross artwork. WW is drawn hyper realistic there and looks elegant if anything, the exact opposite of looking slutty, which equates to having no class or elegance.
