I never said I'd be first and I know this is old news. Not to long ago we got confirmed slash unconfirmed news from a French Magazine that was on the set of the Wonder Woman Movie and claims this was said form Chris Pine who plays Steve Trevor.
"Behind these scientific formulas, there is a deadly gas that could well annihilate humanity. Now, it turns out that this is precisely the goal of Ares, the God of War. He is jealous of humanity, which is a creation of his father, the deceased Zeus (he was killed by Ares when he rebelled against him, with the help of the Amazons)"
Whether or not this is true let's pretend that it is. Now some things we do know as fact is that this movie takes place in World War 1 and glimpses of Present Day. World War 1 definitely would be something Ares the God of War would have his dirty giant hands in being that he feeds off of the psychic energy of war and all the horrible things that come of war like pain, fear, and hate. Personally whether this is confirmed or not, Ares should 100% be the villain of this movie for a couple reasons.
1. Wonder Woman and her home of Themyscera Island is deeply rooted in Greek Mythology and the Greek Gods. Most of her origins involve either her actually being made of clay and being brought to life by a greek God or often times her just thinking that’s how she was born but in reality she’s a demigodess love child of Hippolyte and the big bad Zeus Himself. WonderWoman has often been trained by Ares himself in War and undoubtably we’ve seen how powerful she is in Batman V Superman.
So including the greek gods not only makes sense but it also allows for a lot more powerful foes to face Wonder Woman whether it be Ares himself or demons ect. She honestly will snap any human enemy in half like the gun from the trailer. So I’d like to see where they explore and how many gods we could see. Who knows maybe we'll see the likes of Atlas, Hermes, or even Hercules. Maybe in Wonder Woman 2 after she gets banished from Themyscera (spoiler alert) in the comics she always gets banished, maybe she’ll have to come back and save her home land, she'll fight Medusa or team up with Hercules. Hercules by the way is extremely strong like the Hulk strong, though he’s often an a-hole, unlike the Disney Hercules that made him seem incredible I mean who didn’t love that Pegasus from the Disney animated movie. Yea in lore and the comics he’s jerk.
2. This opens the door for us to realize that gods exist. This is kind of like what Marvel did slowly bringing in weirder things and sciences and making us think Thor and Asgard used magic but it was just really advanced science. Now that we got Dr Strange were like oh Magic this isn’t weird at all. So slowly letting us know that gods exist would open our minds allowing us to be comfortable if Wonder Woman has to encounter more greek gods in Wonderwoman 2 or if Aquaman played by the great Jason Mamoa the King of Atlantis has to talk to or fight the God of the Ocean Poseidon. It also opens us to Shazam and Black Adam who get their powers from an ancient wizard and their powers SHAZAM come from the greek gods. or in Black Adams case the Egyptian gods due to an evil pact which is a story for another day. Knowing these gods both greek and egyptian maybe could even give us new powerful foes to go up against our power house Justice League.
To me this is all great news and I hope it’s true. It gives us a powerful foe for Wonder Woman to fight and to challeng her in battle, and it opens the doors for future story lines and powerful allies and foes.
