X-MEN: DARK PHOENIX - Michael Fassbender Reportedly Returning As Magneto, Won't Appear In NEW MUTANTS

While official casting announcements have yet to be made, a new report from MTV claims that Michael Fassbender will join his co-star James McAvoy in returning for X-Men: Dark Phoenix...

While the future of 20th Century Fox's X-Men franchise was a little unclear after the release of X-Men: Apocalypse, the studio finally confirmed their next three films last month as Deadpool 2New Mutants, and X-Men: Dark Phoenix. The first two films have already begun casting, while Dark Phoenix has been rather silent, though many have assumed it will be continuing where Apocalypse left off with its cast. A prior report from THR also made mention that James McAvoy would return as Professor Xavier for Dark Phoenix, but would remain absent for Josh Boone's New Mutants

Now, according to MTV's Josh Horowitz, we will also be seeing Michael Fassbender suit up as the Master of Magnetism at least one more time in X-Men: Dark Phoenix, though an appearance in New Mutants also won't be in the cards. "Want to know Fassbender's X-MEN future? Bet big on him appearing in DARK PHOENIX but not NEW MUTANTS. Oh, I just saw Michael Fassbender BTW," Horotwitz wrote on Twitter.

While it's best to take this information with a grain of salt until official casting is announced, it's hard to imagine Fox continuing the story set up in Apocalypse without McAvoy and Fassbender. The core cast's contracts expired with Apocalypse, but both actors expressed willingness to return for future films. There's still no word on whether Jennifer Lawrence will return as Mystique, though given her vocal disinterest in the role and franchise, it doesn't seem very likely.

Are you glad to hear about the possibility of Fassbender's return? Let us know in the comments! X-Men: Dark Phoenix is set for release on November 2, 2018.

That's what i figured.
Apparently the same will happen with McAvoy, although he could always have a cameo....

@Doomsday8888 - The only problem I have with Dark Phoenix is it allegedly being set ten years past Apocalypse. Now I don't really care about the aging concerns some people have because they're mutants, but we just got Scott and Jean in high school. They're what? Grade nine, grade ten? Can't we have a movie set the year after? Let these characters grow? We got Moira back, can't we see Proteus? Hell, what about the Mr. Sinister tease? I suspect he'll take Mastermind's spot in the movie if he's in it, but we could have another film or two to actually build of the Sansa Jean Grey. Not a whole four or five movies mind you, but something to help us love these new actors like we did the old ones.

@Yaf - "Now I don't really care about the aging concerns some people have because they're mutants"

So what, mutants don't age the same as humans? Not sure I follow the logic here.

@Yaf -
Yeah i agree, it was a cool concept at first, but ut became a problem rather quickly.
They have to find a way to justify their age and how they look, it-s not even that difficult tbh, this is just sci fi.

@CorndogBurglar - There is no logic when it comes to superhumans or mutants.
A single gene mutation creates a protein which allows a girl to control the weather.

Futhermore, lets face it, nobody in Hollwood films ages or looks realsitic. 30 year olds play teenagers etc.

Won't new mutants be set in the present so it wouldn't make much sense for him to appear anyway? Also, Inhumans is in the Friday night death slot and AOS isn't on the fall schedule at all. That's not good.

Fassbender's Magneto is awesome, but does Magneto really need to be in every movie?
