THE NEW MUTANTS Star Maisie Williams Believes That The X-MEN Spin-Off Being Delayed Was For The Best

We were all surprised to learn that Fox had decided to push back the release of The New Mutants by almost a full year, but star Maisie Williams (Wolfsbane) believes that it was actually a smart move...

Last month, news broke that 20th Century Fox had pushed back the release of Josh Boone's The New Mutants from April 13 to Feb. 22, 2019 - more than 10 months later than it was previously scheduled to open.

This was a big surprise to many because the X-Men spinoff seemed to be entering into a big marketing push right before this announcement, but one person closely involved with the project seems to think it was a good move.

During an interview with Collider, Game of Thrones alum Maisie Williams (Rahne Sinclair/Wolfsbane) explained why she believes the film will ultimately benefit from the extra post-production time:

“We finished in September and they were going to release in April and there’s — it’s a mutant film, there’s a lot of effects. There’s a lot of work that goes into the movie. They really make the movie after we finish shooting, so there was always kind of a bit nervous, really. I know how long this sort of thing takes on Game of Thrones and I know the work that they want to put in is — it’s a huge job. Actually, I think it’s for the better. I think it’s good that we’ve got more time. We’re not so strapped and up against it.”

As for the rumor that one of the reasons for the push-back was to amplify the horror elements, Williams seems to think the film was more than scary enough as it was!

“Well, it was always bizarre to me when we were shooting — when were shooting it was frightening and the scenes that we were doing were supposed to be like PG-13. I was always like are we going to get away with this? It was really scary. I feel like all of the suspense and horror has always been there, it’s just nice to have a little bit more leeway in the editing and make it as scary as it deserves to be.”

It is disappointing that we won't get to see The New Mutants until next year, but it's always better to wait a while longer if it means we'll get a better movie at the end of it.

What do you guys make of Williams' comments? Sound off below.

@Doomsday8888 - A pic or something of the demon bear, anything. Otherwise its just ghosts, and ghosts are boring.

Maaan i truly hope they don't intend to pull that shit!
Otherwise what's the point? :P
Although the director seems very passionate, a comicnook fan, so fingers crossed!

@Doomsday8888 - look up the leaked animatic for the film. It was leaked over a year ago so I don't think it's fake (though it doesn't really confirm it will be the final product).

But they have a huge demon bear, Magick with her sword, Canonball flying around and even a living Lockheed (I assume the teddy in th poster and trailer isn't just a fun Easter egg).

Again, this doesn't really confirm that it will be in the final film, but considering Fox seems to be allowing their directors to just go for it (mainly Deadpool franchise and Logan) I think there is a high chance we will see the sequence in the film.
