At the premiere of the new movie Date Night, MTV News caught up with X-Men star Hugh Jackman. The Aussie actor had nothing but praise for script of the latest installment of the X-franchise:

"It's the best one we've had," said Jackman in reference to the screenplay be Christopher McQuarrie.

The sequel to X-Men Origins: Wolverine will follow the clawed berserker to Japan and is said to be inspired by Chris Claremont and Frank Miller's run on the comic character. Fans will see Wolverine face off against a notorious Japanese crime lord, while also falling in love with his daughter, Mariko. Regarding the tentative filming location for the project, Jackman said,

"At least part of it [will be filmed in Japan]. You know how these things work. We may not be able to do all of it in Japan, but definitely a lot of it."

When asked whether there are any plans of giving the film the 3-D treatment, which many fans are sure to be against, he answered, "Don't know — but that's a good question."

The yet to be titled film will begin production early next year, for a planned release date sometime in 2011.

its not surprising that he's saying this is the best yet, and all that nonsense. he said the same thing about the first one, and look how that turned out.

plus, its not like he's going to bad mouth it...

i DO hope they put Silver Samurai in it, even though he had nothing to do with the Chris Claremont/Frank Miller story this is based off of

I didn't mind the first one as much as most others. Hopefully they learned some things from that and will put something decent together.

Keep the cameos to a minimum and have a solid story.

First one was ok, there was a very good film in there somewhere, just made too many stupid decisions with the script and the characters..a sequel can only be an improvement...I hope!

I'm looking forward to it...I did like the first one even if it wasn't true to the comic...the only thing that I thought was a bit on the stupid side was Wade as Weapon XI...btw the one thing that confuses me with this artical is "The yet to be titled film will begin production early next year, for a planned release date sometime in 2011"...how do you begin production early next year on a film of this scale and release it the same year...we all know it's going to be a summer film...so I'm guessing it'll be a 2012 release based on the start date...
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 4/7/2010, 9:07 AM
@ peter

well, Silver Samurai isn't the crime boss. i'm sure Lord Shingen will be the boss, and he's Mariko's father. Silver Samurai will probably be Shingen's muscle, though.

could you imagine how cool they could make his armor/costume?? really shiny and sparkly, reflecting light off of it (thats something that the comics were never really able to show very well, the shininess of his costume.) could be awesome. lets just hope they don't call him by his real name and just make him another chump with a sword.

no man, he can't shoot anything from his teeth hair because his mouth will be sewn shut. but he'll probably be able shoot ninja stars out his eyes

CDB- Touché... ninja stars would be more appropriate. He could sneeze out a poison mist so that the stars he shoots out of his eyes get coated with it for a deadly blow.

But the muramasa retractable sword at the top of his head is a given...

oh well yeah, the head-sword NEEDS to be there. and yeah, the poison mist-spit that coats the ninja stars would be EPIKKKKKKKKKK! they could call him the Not-So-Silver Samurai, and he can just wear blue jeans.

maybe we should be writers for Fox?

CDB- Sorry.. i was on the phone with Lauren Shuller Donner. What were we talking about again? Oh yeah, the "Not-So-Silver Samurai"... but given his projectile power, he could go by the name "Snot-So-Silver Samurai".

droopy1317- That's also a given.

imnotwearinghockeypants- Are you talking about the good one or the bad one??? Cause Lauren Shuller Donner swears by it.

Ror & Supdog- Don't get me wrong i mean, we can pretty much bitch all night long, Wolverine Origins was still a decent film, but not so much of a decent adaptation though. What i don't get is why they spent so much time and energy in yelling on the top of mountains that they were sticking to the souorce when they were actually ass raping it. I mean... which books were they reading???
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 4/7/2010, 9:57 AM
@ imnotwearinghockeypants (jesus christ thats a long name. and i'm not wearing hockey pants either)

the Chris Claremont/Frank Miller story, the first ever solo Wolverine series. Wolverine #1-#5 or 6 (can't remember how many), where he fights Lord Shingen is actually very good. its what i miss about Wolverine. he wasn't unkillable, his healing factor had limits, and he was much more interesting than he is now. i definitavely lost interest in Wolverine when Nitro exploded and burned him down to his skeleton, and wolverine completely healed in about 5 minutes...its such a shame what Wolverine has become over the years...when's the last time he's even went into a berzerker rage?? he's just a shadow of what he used to be, and it sucks.

after that, i agree, the Japan story got a little stupid.

shaman@ agreed, it was a decent film but horrible adaptation. and as to why they were so adament that they were being faithfull is anyones guesse. im sure they were trying to get people to see it. maybe they meant faithful to the "essence" of the characters but not the story, who knows. i gave up trying to figure out hollywood along time ago.

So Hugh's "happy" w/ the script? Didn't he say the exact same thing for "...Origins:..."? I'm not too stoked for this one. The last one was such a mess. Too many mutants, too rushed, too many free liberties, unrealistic story that played more like a cheesy video game, etc... & if they go 3D w/ the sequel that'll be the final nail in the coffin.
