James Mangold Joins Twitter; Lists Movies He "Thinks About" While Filming THE WOLVERINE

The director of what is now confirmed to be a "standalone" Wolverine movie has taken to Twitter, and listed off a few very interesting movies he says are on his mind while shooting the upcoming CBM..

By MarkCassidy - Aug 15, 2012 04:08 PM EST

You can now follow The Wolverine director James Mangold on Twitter @mang0ld for any potential updates on the currently shooting movie. One of his first Tweets on that subject is an interesting one, as he gives us an idea of his thought process while filming - specifically which movies are in his head..

Now these might not be his direct cinematic influences of course, but if the classic, and somewhat surprising movies on his list are even a hint at the heights he is aspiring to with The Wolverine, I for one really hope he accomplishes his goals. Any and all updates on this one as we have em.

We have em! Here are some more Twitter updates from Mangold..

"Amazing images being made. Great actors in this show. Exhilarating to direct a in multiple languages. Real emotion transcends language.

Today I am starting an intense set piece of action and drama at the Yashida Compound set. Logan, Yukio and Shingen."

Just imagine how stunned everyone would be if The Wolverine became the first CBM to be nominated for Best Picture...

Wolverine´s Rear Window: Wolverine breaks his legs and suddenly he cant heal. He has to start using wheelchair and cause he is pissed about this he locks himself in his home and from outside world. He gets bored and starts to spy his neighbours. Then he witnesses a brutal murder and the killer sees him. Eventually the killer turns out to be Sabretooth... What a twist!:D

Yeah. I honestly think this could rank way up there as one of the best comic book movies. It's got a lot going for it and had some incredible talent behind it. At least nominations for it's script which is supposedly one of the best. Only thing that doesn't make me an extremely vocal supporter: it's a 20th Century Fox property.

"multiple languages" --> YES. I hate it when movies have a bunch of foreign characters speaking English amongst each other.

Always a win if you draw from Hitchcock. The greatest of all time.

If this one sucks, they need to stop with the Wolverine movies, let quite a bit of time pass and pass the torch to someone else. As much as I've enjoyed Jackman's portrayal, there are some who would be better suited for the role. But with his inclusion (if you'd call it that) in First Class and a sequel already planned, it might be difficult to getaway from Hugh as Logan/Jimmy. I hope it's good but he's getting too old to be at this early stage of Wolverine's story. I don't know. That's how I feel as of now. What do y'all think?

It's good to be influenced by great films... doesn't mean it's gonna turn out like them. I saw that piece of crap called Knight and Day Mangold, you're not fooling anyone.

Why are people citing Fox as if they're the ones who create the film?

@AiyalKilU

Did you see 3:10 to Yuma? Because that was spectacular.

Honestly, X:Men Origins has nothing to do with the quality of this one.

Its all on the writers and Mangold, AND since Aronofsky himself spoke highly of the project, I think we can be sure it'll be fantastic.

Marvelpsyco79@ 5'10 or shorter? are you sure? i think thats actually taller than the average size for a man that covers pretty much about every actor in hollywood. actors are short, you'd have to get REALLY short actor to play him the way you want him to look and also look shorter than all the other actors on screen, who are extremely short. at this point Emile Hersch is probably the only actor actually short enough to pull off the fanboys version of wolverine...

plus ya'know who cares about character when you can get a short guy! as long as he look good huh?!? no. the way wolverine is in most comics would make for one of the worst movie characters of all time. weren't we all satisfied with tom hardy? can we get over it finally? everyone was bitching about how Jackman was too tall 12 years ago, thats a tired argument. everyone on [frick]ing earth loves him as wolverine. his size doesn't matter (queue teabag)

@thewonderer Because they're the ones who okay some of the choices of these X-Men films (all of which sucked, imo). And I'm pretty sure they stuck their less-than-two-hours policy and reduced the budgets a number of times. We have every right to blame them (especially when the legal rights are under their name).

@ thewonderer

-fox puts up the budget
-fox picks the director
-fox own the rights
-fox says what they want to be in the movie,do you think the wolverine is just gonna be wolverine vs silver samurai,no of course not fox will interfere & add more characters that'll probably have nothing to do with the story.
-fox executives will veiw the movie & make changes if they are needed or not.

@KamenRiderJ22 amen brother! The only time I want to see "logan" is when hes drinking his tits off in a bar/in the prison camp/ taking it easy. Other than that I expect suit and cowl for 80% of the film not the last 15 minuets. Or I'll be boycotting the film.

Rear Window is an amazing film and has inspired hundreds of movies after it's release, one of the most recognizable is Disturbia.

@Prot3ctor That's not my point. I hated their X-Men films. Not just jumping on the anti-Fox bandwagon, but they made me hate the X-Men mythos, completely. Recently I dived into the comics and realized how far off Fox's films were and how none of them are worthy of being called X-Men. Fox has made shit movies out of their Marvel properties. Disney is not perfect, but they treat Marvel with utter respect. Just my opinion, but I think the majority would agree. Five films in and where's Apocalypse? Cable? Sentinels? Mister Sinister? lol. Hey, I do agree with your "too comedic" comment, though.

I really haven't seen anything for this yet do I don't know if I'm excited or not. It has potential though, jackman is a Oscar caliber actor so I have faith in him. It's just FOX/ orgin that really throws me off. But it still has some amazing potential let's wait and see before we write it off.

@Juggernaut
Too bad he isn't thinking about the books they ganked this story from.

Exactly!! Who freakin cares if he likes Hitchcock. The first thing I want to know about every Marvel director is how much do they respect Marvel mythos. Not slavish devotion either. But do they have love for the comics? And Jackman or whoever saying there will be no other supporting X-characters because it will be more character-driven is retarded. (Especially in light of the Avengers script, in which every scene was so carefully character-driven, despite the large cast of characters.) This kind of pretension is reminding me of the discussions leading up to the first Hulk movie. Please don't let it be so, Mangold. I really hope this is just high ambition.

i never understood why wolvie is so popular untill i placed him in context, a cigar smoking grumpy gruff antihero just like the man with no name, nick fury and howard the duck, seems the wolverine factor is realy just to copy earlier greats good going well played
