During an interview with The Wrap, Stranger Things actor David Harbour revealed that he actually auditioned for the role of Fred Dukes, AKA The Blob, in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and didn't get the part because... he was too fat?

As ridiculous as that sounds, Harbour says that he joked around when he went in to read for the role by squeezing is belly while saying, “I got your Blob right here,” and he believes that's what ultimately cost him the gig.

“I just made a stupid joke and then they called me and the director, we met at like a hotel, and he was like, ‘David, look, you’re wonderful, we really think you’re just a great actor, we’re just concerned… we’re really concerned,'” he explained. “I was like, ‘Why, what’s your concern? I’m good to go. I’m available, let’s do this!’ And they were like, ‘no, it’s just, you lifted up your shirt and we saw the… we’re just a little worried about your health.'”

“I was like, ‘Wait a minute, dude, pause for one second,'” he added. “‘You are telling me I’m too fat to play The Blob? That’s awesome, I have to get the f— back to New York.’

That’s my audition — so I didn’t get The Blob.”

The Strain's kevin Durand went on to play The Blob, while Harbour has the Hellboy reboot lined up next. You can see him being fitted for the demonic hero's Right Hand of Doom, HERE.

When I was in basic training a long time ago our drill instructor told us that if we have a friend that's starting to get fat, the best thing to do for him is to make fun of him mercilessly until he's shamed into losing weight. That probably wouldn't fly anymore with the touchy-feely world.

@blackandyellow - That shit doesn't work. It never worked. Nobody was ever shamed into doing anything long-term. If someone is not properly motivated to do something, especially of their own accord, they're not going to stick with it. Mercilessly shaming someone is only going to result in them despising you, them delving deeper into whatever it is they're being shamed for or them developing a self esteem issue (if they already didn't have one).

@blackandyellow - That wouldn't fly if you're a normal human being.

@tazmaniak - That's true in the real world, but in the military it's part of the job requirements to be in good shape so his advice made sense back then.

@RorMachine - Lol, it was the military so the thought-process was a little different.
