Alexandra Shipp Says 'Storm' Joins 'En Sabah Nur' Out Of "Pure Love" In X-MEN: APOCALYPSE

We'd previously been led to believe that Apocalypse's Horsemen were manipulated into following the God-like mutant in his war against the X-Men, but Alexandra Shipp (Storm) suggests that may not be the case. According to her, Ororo and En Sabah Nur become "kindred spirits". More past the jump...

Here we have a new interview with Alexandra Shipp, who will play the younger incarnation of Ororo Monroe/Storm in Bryan Singer's X-Men: Apocalypse. It turns out Storm is the first mutant to encounter Oscar Isaac's En Sabah Nur when he wakes from his slumber, and becomes the first of his Four Horsemen.

Isaac has said in a previous interview that his villain had great powers of persuasion and implied that Apocalypse all but brainwashed his followers, but in Storm's case, at least, that doesn't appear to be the case. Shipp says her take on the weather-wielding mutant genuinely wants to act as a protector for Apocalypse, and uses her power to shield him from harm.

"It’s just pure love. I feel like when someone joins a cult, they end up becoming kindred spirits. They’re following the same thing. They all have the same goal which is Apocalypse… So what he is attracted to is their level and their magnitude of power. I think that his plan for her in the movie is to protect him. Protect him with fog. Protect him with lightening. Blow away a missile. Blow away a plane. There is so much that she can do, and what he’s looking for is protection because he just woke up after a couple thousands and thousand years. He’s weak and he’s alone, and he’s been betrayed, you know.

She admires him. She believes in him because for so long humans have treated her like crap. He is like, “Well in my day it was different”. She’s like, “Let’s get back to there, let’s get back to that.” She’s a weather goddess, you know. She’s a level, what is she, level 4, level 5 almost? She’s almost on Magneto’s level when it comes to her power."

X-Men: Apocalypse hits theaters on May 27, 2016.

Sounds really stupid. Out of love? Really? So what, in this movie she's a murderer because she was bullied for practically being a God ? Soooo, by the end of the movie she's just going to be like, "you know what, I guess I'm not so on board with murdering the entire human race". That's how I see it happening, which is just blatantly bad writing, it's also pretty out of character for her to just come to this conclusion so easily, IT'S [frick]ING GENOCIDE. She's just going to casually join Mutant Adolf because she was bullied? Come on!

Out of love? Sounds like Will Smith's answer on why he passed on Django Unchained!

Where the fuq do they come up with this stuff?

From the Collider article:

"Apocalypse moves from body to body, as he’s not himself a physical form but an “energy,” and so he accumulates powers over the millennia by changing bodies."

Storm was best in the 80's. She didn't let emotions determine her path. She even proved herself to be the most capable character without her powers.

I never understood why anyone ever liked her and Black Panther getting together. Always seemed kind of racist, like the author went "hey these two people are black, they should get together!"

@PsychoticSpaceRaccoon I wouldn't really bother with that detail. Didn't they try to explain how Professor X survived X3 and looks the same by Prof. X's subconscious literally creating a new body for DOFP?

I have to see it first before I can really judge, although this scenario sounds a bit iffy IMO. But I'm excited about what Storm's power level, especially since she's on par with Magneto.

How do we know for sure that Storm can't be in the MCU?
How do we know her rights situation isn't something similar to Scarket Witch and Quicksilver?
We didn't know that Quicksilver and Scarlet witch being in the MCU could be a thing until they were announced to appear in age of ultron.

Like that she'll have an accent and will even speak Arabic. Didn't expect to hear that.

@KurtWagner1225

Too bad they're divorced.

Storm being in the MCU would be entirely lame if there are no other X-Men mentions to go along with her existence there. I would LOVe to see a King and Queen status relationship but shoehorning it in there for the sake of love would be completely lame. I'd rather the rights revert where it would be easier to have them all in a cohesive universe than random popups of people we've already been introduced to. It's sloppy and if it's handled in the way that QS was in AoU I'm not motivated for it to happen again.

She even went into detail within an article with Joblo that her parents did die from a plain that flew into a house and everything. I'm glad to see that Fox is drawing substances/story elements from the comics.

She further goes on to explain that Storm in this film (of course) is not a villain but misguided by her motivations after all of these bad things have happened to her in life and how Apocalypse (seemingly) offers a way out of that lifestyle for her. (manipulation of course)

Still curious to see why Apocalypse didn't recruit that one super-powerful guy who can easily be talked into pretty much anything...
