RUMOR: Will X-MEN FIRST CLASS Sequel Be Based On "Days Of Future Past"?

AICN have received some info regarding the now officially announced follow up to Mathew Vaughn's brilliant X-Men requel, and if it is accurate, we may see some kind of adaptation of the classic multiple timeline tale..

We now know that Mathew Vaughn will return to helm a sequel to X-Men: First Class and that it has a release date of July 18, 2014. Other than that, aside from a bit of cast speculation, we don't know much else. Or do we? AICN have received some interesting info regarding a recent Fox title registration..

One of my little birds Weapon X recently dropped me some information that 20th Century Fox had recently registered the title DAYS OF FUTURE PAST with the MPAA Title Registration Bureau. The Bureau exists for studios and productions companies to stake their claims on certain titles that they intend to release and distribute, so that others can stray from using a similar title.

As any comic fan should know, Days Of Future past means Sentinels, Kitty Pryde and all manner of alternate timeline shenanigans. Truth be told a direct adaptation would seem like a strange move, but if this registration is on the level it's surely not just a coincidence? Best guess is they mean to use elements of the storyline but adapt it for their established movie continuity. What do you guys think?

Perfect storyline to pull a star trek and create a reboot universe although lets be honest the first movie was more or less pseudo reboot.

slightly intrested in this because of the sentinels, but we are talking about fox & their track record speaks for itself.

This would've been perfect for X4, NOT as a sequel to First Class. I mean seriously... who the [frick] is left from the FC roster to even remotely make that storyline interesting? Banshee? GTFOOH.

Oh wait, i know! Charles will just use Cerebro to make another shitty ass mutant search montage for the next batch of expendables... eh, i mean x-men. I meant X-Men. Really i did.

Okay, how in the [frick] would that work considering Kitty & Wolverine aren't apart of the X-Men team in the First Class? Mickey Mouse needs to buy back the rights from Fox before they butcher this shit any further.

haha... shouldnt they use Days of Future Past to clear up their brutally painful timeline?

or maybe professor will just go get his legs fixed or something so james mcavoy doesnt have to sit in a chair the whole time...

either way, as long as there's Sentinels AND Cyclops... I'll be at least somewhat satisfied

Shaman: There is also the fact that if they used this story line, they would have to completely disregard the previous X films. Unless they used some of those "present day" characters, the other films would be null and void.

this would be dumb if u doing a sequel to X-Men: First Class u cant introduce the sentinels.

they going to introdce time travel and bring in Cable or Bishop to sort out FOX mess lol.

jazzman - 6/5/2012, 10:38 AM
@Hawksblueyes

that wont make sense since its been pointed out its a prequel to the other movies. if they doing a complete reboot thats something else.

Ghastly, duuuuh derp, you honestly think they will adhere to the story 100%? lmao

I guarantee if they use this story line it will not be a direct translation. I bet the only thing of great similarity will be the Sentinels... but then again it's about [frick]in' time we get them for a movie. They will just be calling it this and not much will be the same, I doubt very much there will be any time travel at all.

"Perfect storyline to pull a star trek and create a reboot universe although lets be honest the first movie was more or less a piece of shit." - corrected!

Like to say I am happy about this, but the last three movies Fox has done have been less than good. Amazed people liked First Class, aside from Magneto, it was just so damn lame.

Maybe they'll use this story line as a way to tie in the 3 xmen movies with the wolverine and first class time line. Introduce Cable and Bishop, have some time travel mishaps that account for events in Wolverine, the 3 xmen movies and the first class movie. By the end of it they could have everything fixed and good to go.

There is no way that they are going to do Days of future past. They are only going to be using the title, Imean come on its one of the most popular titles associated with The Xmen. First Class had nothing to do with the comic Xmen: First Class, did it, nope not even close, but that didnt stop them from using the title. Im pretty sure the same thing applies here. On top of that, lets just say for the sake of argument, that they completely disreguard the first 3 films. They would still have to introduce a whole new team, In the future which would then go back in forth from Present to the future. That said they have already also made it clear that they want Fassbender, and McAvoy back for the next movie

as long as it's in Matthew Vaughn or Bryan Singer's hands I'm confident they'll do an exceptional job at executing the task of making it EPIC! also, don't rule out the possibility that they might use this for X4!

Well we know he's available to use having appeared in the first one, and by using elements of this story they basically have a get out of jail free card to do pretty much whatever the hell they like! Be that tidy up their all over the place canon or just continue on making stuff up as they go. But as I said it's highly unlikely they will even attempt to adapt the story fully anyway.

Hawksblueyes- That would be such a cluster [frick] when they could've rebooted the franchise WITH FC. Instead, they had to incorporate so much from the previous films' continuity into FC as well as leaving out the fan favorite characters. And NOW they think of doing DOFP??? The only thing FC had going for it was Fassbender and won't even be a part of them in the sequel. Seriously, are any people actual fans of the X-men when they don't include Wolverine, Colossus, Storm, Cyclops, Jean, Nightcrawler, Gambit and Rogue??? Because i sure as hell ain't. Getting tired of this X-Factor/New Mutants/Generation [frick]! Get me Uncanny or GTFO! THEN bring in the sentinels.

no interest in this because its Fox and they shouldve gotten the series right in the first place. Using this as means to mesh the two continuities theyve created is a cop out by way of "look! all the other characters still exist too!"

I think that it would be a brilliant, needed move to correct this franchise. In a perfect world, this would be how MARVEL brings in a completely owned franchise and cleans up the horrid past. As long as Fox owns a portion of this, I think they should go with the Giant-Sized X-Men run, bring in the X-Men, Claremont era (Mohawk Storm) and develop these characters. Then, they may be able to pull it off. I always wanted to see this (and Apocalypse), but I'd rather not see it at all then see it done wrong. My two cents...

As mentioned, First Class was nothing like First Class, so why would DOFP be anything like DOFP. Geez...did I just type that. Sad...but true. It would be quite a jump from what First Class delivered to go into a Sentinel story line when you don't even have the right team put together yet. They will end up doing their "re-imaginiation" on this one too. There is no established continuity right now and I don't think I really even care anymore. I figured First Class would end up being the beginning of a reboot of the whole franchise instead of being a prequel and now I don't know what they are thinking.
