The announcement of The Bourne Legacy was met with a mixed reaction from fans especially when it was revealed that Matt Damon's Jason Bourne would not be a part of the movie - an odd decision considering the title. However, the announcement that Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol star Jeremy Renner would be playing an all-new character renewed interest in the project thanks to USA Today we have the following image. The whole idea of making another Bourne movie is dumb., let alone making one without the title character. Should have just left it how it is. However the pros are 1) They aren't recasting Bourne (would have been a HUGE mistake), 2) Renner is a really good replacement for a lead. 3) If it ends up good I'll let my initial feelings go much like with Amazing Spider-man which, even though i was against a reboot this early, looks like it will turn out good.

@grayfox117 Actually I would love to see a Mission Impossible movie without Ethan Hunt to me M.I. is not the same without Jim Phelps as a good guy and leader. I say reboot it and bring back Phelps.

I'm surprised they didn't keep his last name Bourne. Or maybe that will be his fake name also. For some reason I can't get into these movies even though they are very good. I'm looking forward to it anyway, mostly just to see how they do this one.

HarrisonBergeron & smgmayhem @ So, Bourne is Cross's father and passing down his bad luck and spy skills to his descendant or in this case just another spy? If that is the case, I still think it is weak sauce to explain replacing the title character.

By that reasoning I guess it is okay if we have a Rambo Legacy film and not have Rambo in the film? No thanks.

My guess is that Bourne's Legacy is for free thinking agents too fight /question BlackStone(whatever that group that trained Bourne was). Or the Legacy would be that BlackStone now sends assassins after agents as soon as they think they have gone rogue.

I could write plenty of stories around the title.

Legacy does not always denote family lineage.

Rambo Legacy could maybe work, just like with this movie we would have to wait until we knew what the story was.

The small difference is that the Bourne series is smarter than the Rambo series, Rambo is not story driven like Bourne so expecting people to care about the definition of the title would be asking a lot more.
