It's been nearly nine years since we last saw Jason Bourne (well, actually since The Bourne Ultimatum was set in 2004, it's been twelve years in movie-time). This summer, Bourne returns with a vengeance and now, we may know exactly when we should expect to get our first official look at the highly anticipated action thriller.

A few days back, Eric Van Lustbader, the current author of the Bourne series, posted the following message on his personal Facebook:

The message has since been deleted, and it's by no means official confirmation, but after yesterday's report from The Hollywood Reporter, it seems as though there may be some real weight to this rumor. Unlike rival studios, Universal bought a solo 60-second spot, but curiously didn't specify on what film they planned on promoting. Considering Bourne 5 is their biggest release of the year, it would make sense Universal would want to debut the film's much-awaited official title and release the first teaser trailer during the biggest football game of the year. Additionally, Universal has used the Super Bowl as a trailer launching pad for several of their biggest films over the years, including Jurassic World & the last three Fast & Furious movies. A Bourne installment with both franchise star Matt Damon & director Paul Greengrass returning seemingly also fits the bill.

On the off chance that their TV spot is not a first look at the next Bourne installment, they could plug either The Hunstman: Winter's War or Warcraft, both of which could benefit from some Super Bowl promotion, although neither really carries the mass appeal of the long-running Bourne franchise.

So, what do you guys think? Excited for Bourne's return? Sound off with your thoughts below!

Global superstar Matt Damon returns to his most iconic role as Jason Bourne in the fifth installment of Universal Pictures’ Bourne franchise. Acclaimed director Paul Greengrass (The Bourne Supremacy, The Bourne Ultimatum, Captain Phillips) also returns for this much-anticipated chapter, and Frank Marshall again produces alongside Jeffrey Weiner and Ben Smith for Captivate Entertainment. Greengrass, Damon and Gregory Goodman also produce. The action-thriller is written by Greengrass, Damon and Christopher Rouse. Julia Stiles, Alicia Vikander, Vincent Cassel and Tommy Lee Jones join Damon for the action-thriller.

Bourne 5 will feature:
Director: Paul Greengrass
Matt Damon as Jason Bourne
Julia Stiles as Nicky Parsons
Tommy Lee Jones as a hardened CIA agent
Alicia Vikander as a cyberspecialist
Vincent Cassel in an undisclosed role
Ato Essandoh in an undisclosed role
Scott Shepherd in an undisclosed role
Riz Ahmed in an undisclosed role

Jason Bourne returns July 25, 2016

It should really be considered 'Bourne 4’. That poor excuse for a film 'The Bourne Legacy' was sub-par to say the least. In my mind it doesn't even exsist.

@BlackStar25 -
I lived in NC for the majority of my life and I NEVER knew/saw this many Panthers "fans"!! Maybe their first couple seasons, but it's both sad & hilarious seeing so many Panthers "fans" all of a sudden. Personally, as a die-hard Mets/Jets fan, after years/seasons of disappointment & under-performing to finally see your team achieve success again means EXPONENTIALLY more than only being a fan of a good team(s) or only supporting them when they're good.
Hell, since 2007 I've spent hundreds of dollars on MLB Extra Innings & NFL Sunday Ticket so I could watch the Mets & Jets. I've watched/listened to at least 100 Mets games a season, but last season was the Mets first postseason appearance since 2006! I'll admit I shed a few "tears of joy" when the Mets finally clinched this season because it meant so goddamn much to me! I suffered thru two late season collapses in 2007 & 2008 and the Mets huge drop in payroll & bad-mediocre roster due to the Wilpons' involvement in the Madoff Scheme. Seeing the Mets FINALLY reach the postseason again, especially when no one expected it, made it all worth it! It was such an exciting & satisfying reward for years/seasons of disappointment. Bandwagon "fans", front-runners & fair weather "fans" will NEVER know or understand how great a feeling that is/was.
It's why I despise them and will never consider them true fans, they're posers. Not sure which is worse, bandwagon/front-runner "fans" or fair weather "fans", but they're all garbage.

If the title is not "Bourne Again" then honestly what's the point?!?

It's an appropriate/fitting title, almost too perfect! And it's not like there will be a better opportunity to use it.

And if it's not the title, at least use it as for the film's tagline!

If the new Bourne film is a success & they make another Bourne film, it NEEDS to star both Matt Damon and Jeremy Renner!! They would be awesome together!

Honestly it would be very easy to make it work. Edward Norton's character Eric Byer & his NRAG team realize the only thing that could jeopardize their programs/plans would be Jason Bourne & Aaron Cross working together to defeat/expose them. So, Byer & Co. devise a plan to make Bourne & Cross believe the other is trying to set him up & kill him. Byer & Co. hope that even if Bourne & Cross figure out their plan to pit them against each other, at least they planted a seed of doubt. Meaning, even though Bourne & Cross know it was a setup and they work together to defeat/expose Byer & Co., Bourne & Cross still can't/won't be able to trust each other. It'd create plenty of entertaining tension & conflict between them for some great scenes of "forced" chemistry. Not to mention, it could setup some great comedic scenes too!
