Jeremy Renner Set To Return In Another Instalment Of BOURNE (Without Bourne)

Another Bourne movie is now in the works at Universal after the release of The Bourne Legacy last year. However, it will once again focus on the adventures of Aaron Cross instead of the titular character.

The Bourne Legacy wasn't a huge hit with critics or at the box office, but it did do well enough to warrant a sequel according to Deadline! Universal have apparently hired Sherlock Holmes scribe to pen the fifth instalment of the franchise, but this one will continue the story of Jeremy Renner's Aaron Cross. While it's fair to say that there are plenty of stories they can tell with the character, most fans have been hoping that any future Bourne movie would in fact feature Jason Bourne! However, it doesn't sound as if negotiations with Matt Damon about a possible return are any different from the last we heard. He wants to work with director Paul Greengrass again and isn't sure where the character could go after regaining his memory in The Bourne Ultimatum. For that reason, the studio are now forging ahead with a series focusing on Cross.

Legacy was awesome but the weakest of them all. Hope we can see Renner and Damon team up.

And Bourne Legacy not being as good wasn't because of Renner. His performance stood out.

I had no problem with Jeremy Renner as Aaron Cross. I thought he did great. Legacy's story was just terrible.

I think Jeremy did his best with what he had. There are times that I liked his character due to Jeremy's earnest performance.

Yeah this movie was just ok. Renner was the bright spot and great in the action scenes. This will be a rental for me.

Nothing will top Bourne identity for spy thriller movies. Even the new bond movie was trying to be like Bourne and dark knight...

It's a shame there's not that many original stories being done in Hollywood right now...

If there's no Matt Damon then

Cause the Bourne Legacy was garbage.

Damon is looking old these days. He actually was showing age in Bourne 3.

He's just too old for bit now and Renner's version isn't good enough to hold up in a sequel. I think this one tanks like Lone Ranger and they reboot.

Legacy wasnt as good as the trilogy, but it was still great. Have one more movie with Renner on his own, set it up for a sixth movie, then do a Batman / Superman on it, team Bourne and Cross for one final battle against the shadowy government forces, end it once and for all until the inevitable reboot in a decade

and this song continues to be amazing

Love the first three and hated the fourth. Not paying until they bring back Damon.

I actually really liked The Bourne Legacy. I felt like it had a much more interesting plot, what with all the cover-ups and stuff. While I do love the other Bourne movies, it was kind of refreshing to not have a movie that boils down to "I wonder how he'll kill THIS assassin" over and over.

Regardless, I don't think any complaints leveled with the fourth Bourne movie could be aimed at Renner himself. He did a great job, regardless of what you think about the rest of the movie. I am actually pretty excited for this fifth film, but in the future, it would be cool to see an Aaron Cross/Jason Bourne team-up.

@DonJohnMags

One day I would love to hear a director say, "screw grounded comic book films, let's go balls to walls with purple and green uniforms with bows that shoot fists!" That would be great.

Put the Matt Damon from Team America in this movie. That was his best role.

Bring back Matt Damon. I like Renner but MAtt Damon is supposed to be in the Bourne movies. You can't have Bourne without Jason Bourne.

The movie was fantastic, still can't get over that insane pakour climb up the house he did all in one camera shot, into the room, out drew that agent and shot em dead all in less than 10 seconds. Can't wait for more, hope it's just as good, don't change the format. Doesn't need to try to win over anyone who didn't like the Bourne Legacy, just keep its integrity and make enough money to warrant a final film for the trilogy.

Guys, Matt Damon is 100% correct. The third film wrapped it up for his character. There are more books though, so they will of course try to make more movies. The books even go into other characters.
